OK. So I've read everything here and everything available online and can possibly add some important info for those either still trying to get a ticket or thinking that they aren't happy with their current ticket and are looking to change it.
Richmond's ticket ballot contained 10,700 ticketek account holders. What is unknown is how many individual memberships each account holder has. I, for example, had 2 memberships registered to my account. Whilst we don't know how many actual memberships this equates to, we can have a really good guess.
Successful accounts = 6920 for 17,000 tickets, meaning average memberships per account = 2.45
Therefore, unsuccessful accounts = 3780 x average of 2.45 memberships per account = 9261 unsuccessful members.
Another way to check whether these number make sense is to look at potential number of Cat 1, 2 and 3 members.
Cat 1 = 11,000 - I've checked this with the club
Cat 2 = in 1995 (latest year you could join and be a Platinum Member this year) we had 14,647 members, out of this comes anyone who hasn't been a member for all this time, as well as any Platinum member who qualifies as a Cat 1 member. Anecdotal evidence suggests there are around 2,000 Platinum Members, but that 50% of these would be MRC, 3121, Cotorie, MCC, AFL Members and get tickets another way. So number of Cat 2 members would be around 1,000.
Cat 3 = Using the same logic as above, in 2010 we had 35,960 members (so potentially gold this year). Question is, how many of these were in the ballot., meaning they have stayed members for 10 years, don't qualify for a ticket another way (MRC, Premiership Circle, 3121, Club XI, Cotorie, AFL, MCC members) Based on everything I listed so far, my guess would be 9261 who were unsuccessful and 5,000 who were successful.
Now the question is how many tickets will the GWS return out of their allocation.
Based on the GWS successful ballot information (referenced earlier in this thread), there were 1696 successful accounts, which should equate to around 4,155 (let's round up to 5,000 as a worst case scenario because maybe given they have to travel, you are going to get less accounts with just 1 member, so the average memberships per account could be higher than the 2.45 I worked out for us).
So there's 12,000 tickets remaining. The GWS Giants fans get first crack between 3-5pm today. They have 30,000 members this year, but I think that it's safe to assume, given the travel requirement, those that were planning to come would have already registered and been successful. Still, if you are a GWS member, your barcode is now worth the right to buy a Grand Final ticket. You could easily sell that for a price or buy a ticket and sell that or pass it onto someone who wants to go to the GF or who already lives in Melbourne. So I think it's far to assume that a number of GF tickets will be taken up by GWS members today. Let's say it's 3,000 tickets, that leaves 9,000 tickets for the 9261 Cat 3 members who registered for the ballot but weren't successful. So if this is you, I would suggest you have an excellent chance. Time to buy is 11am tommorw via either online, an outlet or over the phone. Strongly advise doing it online.
Let's say you already have a ticket, but it's standing or too far away or too expensive or for some other reason you don't like it. I am 100% sure you will have no option to exchange it via RFC or ticketek before the game except if you are severely disabled and can't stand or otherwise get to your seats on upper levels, then you might succeed by pleading your case directly to ticketek to get a wheelchair space. The only way to exchange your ticket is to either find another ticket holder and do a swap or buy another ticket tomorrow with a NEW barcode (if you can access one) and then hope to sell your first seat. Having said that, after the 1st quarter of the game on Saturday, you will be able to move quite freely around your own stand and potentially find a spare seat (someone decided to stand, or couldn't come on the day etc etc) - my brother sat in 3 different seats in 2017.
Finally if for some reason, you didn't register for a GF ticket and could have, then at 12pm you get your chance. My two kids are overseas, so I didn't register them in Cat 3, but I might use one of their memberships to buy my 75 year old Dad a concession member ticket if he's happy to go and sit by himself. As to whether there will be tickets left at 12pm, My gut feel is that there might well be.
