He's a superstar.
Geez, the BULLDOGS would regret not taking him at pick 3.
I reckon that decision cost them a Grand Final place, maybe a flag.
Just sayin' :cutelaugh

What has become clear in recent weeks is that Buddy was the second best player in that draft behind Deledio.

How many times did we see Richo make 4 or 5 leads with the ball coming forward, only to have his 6th lead honoured with the ball kicked over his head?!

Overstated I think, like "Richo would've kicked xxx more goals if he wasn't such a shocking kick". Anyway it's not my job to argue Franklin's case any more than I have. Bash away.

Ricoh loved his club as much as any supporter.

Buddy doesn't give that impression.

Couldn't resist on Saturday when Buddy missed a sitter. Yelled out "Tambling would have kicked that". Even the Hawks supporters laughed.

Hartbalme

You didn't also yell out "Tambling mk2" at buddy as well did you?
Pissed myself laughing at that one

The real story here is Sintiger taking on the stats guru L2R2R.

If nothing else Sin very courageous.
I wasn't taking him on at all. My stats were the same, 85 goals more at the same age, but my point was that this stat ignored the number of games played.

If we look at both stats we now have they show that at the same age and after the same number of games the Goal kicking records of Buddy and Richo are almost identical. I think Franklin is a game breaking enigmatic superstar but so was Richo.

Jeez I think a few here are indulging in opportunistic re-writings of Franklin's career.

After 151 games: Richo 460 goals & 66 Brownlow votes, Franklin 472 goals and 65 Brownlow votes
After 72 MCG games: Richo 249 goals, Franklin 251 goals

Franklin's worst is not as bad as early Richo. Richo obviously much stronger overhead but Franklin has more all-round polish. Yes Franklin has more quality ball coming into the forward line, but goals are harder to come by nowadays.

We all love Richo but how anyone could seriously claim 'Richo good, Buddy bad' is beyond me. I would say that, at the least, Franklin has been as good as Richo to this point of his career.

I'm not saying "Richo good, Buddy bad", I'm saying Buddy has been in a top team whereas Richo wasn't and that makes a massive difference to their scoring opportunities, stats and overall performance. It is not an "apples to apples" comparison.

There's no doubt Buddy is a great player but I think many people get seduced by the occasional freakish thing he does without considering his overall consistency and output or the opportunities that are created for him by having a lot of other good players around him - something Richo never had.

Yeah but you can spin that both ways.
You could say we always kicked it to Richo hence why he got so much footy but a player like Buddy in a quality forward line with more avenues to goal, might not receive the ball as often.
Stats are what you make them.

Will be interesting to see how he goes from here if Hawthorn falls to mid-table or worse. If he drops away markedly I'll give the points to Richo. I don't expect he'll have another ~9 years near his top like Richo did.

I'd be very very surprised if Buddy performances didn't drop off if Hawthorn fall to the bottom part of the ladder, front runners always do.

Surely enough, minutes into the second quarter, they were calling Maric marking over Franklin. Lance is pretty fragile IMO. Wasn't surprised to see Maric emasculate him.

Marking ain't Franklin's strong point.

Franklin's one of the best players you would ever see, on his day. The problem is the effect it has on the team. To many Hawks players just waiting for him to turn it on and when he doesn't they seem to lose at the moment.

His kicking is super off at the moment. I mean SUPER.
Doesn't even look like it most of the time and the stats back it up.

I wonder if his split from his girlfriend last year has had anything to do with his drop in form.
Struggling big time and Rance made him pay.

13.4.

Are Lance and his girlfriend an item again? :rofl
