Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

Bloody press now coming up with scenarios that wud give us pretty much nothing as Freo, Gold Coast, West Coast et el will spend all draft capital on other stuff.
Oh well...Shai, Dan will just have to see out their contracts...we can pick Baker up in the PSD...as for Graham?

This is the beauty of our position.

West Coast and Suns and Freo have been chasing our players. It is up to them if they trounce their own trading reputation

You give the club way too much credit. It was a *smile* up plain and simple.

The club screwed up its drafting from around 2018 onward which created a sizable hole in our list just as our core players were aging out. Combine this with some poor list management decisions (Hopper and Taranto instead of Hopper or Taranto, not enough list turnover) and some questionable appointments (Meehan) and the loss of key personnel and that’s how we find ourselves where we are now.

The really concerning aspect is that Clarke left the club for a promotion despite being the person most responsible for decimating our list. Was there any pressure on him internally for his less than stellar performance at the draft? What were Hartley, Livingston and even Gale doing during this time?

Big whiff of complacency and arrogance around the club and now we’ve paid the price.
Sorry 2017
Higgins and Coleman Jones
Missing out on Oscar Allen Brett Daniels Samny Taylor and the Viking.

It was harder Missing them. Clarke had this good family nice kid mantra.

Higgins wasn't a miss. He was a good selection. You can try spin it anyway you like, but for his position he's very good.
CCJ is a bust. We obviously did a bit of list balancing over best players available with CCJ going that high.
If you look at our list back then though, with Balta coming in, we had Miller, Chol etc. Did we need another KPD in Taylor at that time?

That must've skipped his mind.
Lyold said that we are mess
Has he looked at those 3 skinny things in our cabinet??
To be fair on Lloyd, his mind is probably on other things at the moment. He’s part of the committee that’s organising the year long celebrations to mark the druggies finals winning drought 21st birthday

Ok folks, I know the anticipation has been building, but we can now reveal the winners.

Yes, the AFL media awards have been announced and

Kane Cornes, who joins Seven in 2025 was awarded three accolades: Alf Brown Award for best overall media performer for his work with The Age, Nine, SEN and AFL Media; the Lou Richards Medal for former or current league footballer working in the media; and Best opinion / analysis in radio, TV or digital.

I can't find yesterday's paper here but I read this in The Age.

I know we will all congratulate Mr Cornes . . .

FFS, Cornes? Really?

Clickbait opinion pieces are the best that the AFL media can come up with? Lou Richards would be digging his way out of his grave to make sure his name does not appear on the award as we speak.

What a joke, but actually a very accurate reflection of the AFL and their expectation that the media are suckholes to the AFL and churn out as much clickbait as possible without questioning The Boys' Club.

*smile* me, can they go any lower?

They just announced how low a bar they’ve set for sports “journalism”

Zips doing his usual stuff which is getting told facts, ignoring them and coming back with the same stuff again.

Taylor was actually the giants 3rd pick in the late 20s, most of the AFL clubs missed him. They took Bonar as their 1st pick !!

But somehow we are the ones who missed him

I heard that yesterday. It’s an insult to Alf Brown that Cornes ‘won’ the award named after him.

I wonder what the criteria is? Can’t involve intelligence, honesty, insight, consistency. Must’ve required sourness, sensationalism, stupidity….

Not a mess mate
We are the most successful football club in the last 10 yrs
Absolute mess the past is the past and while dwelling on it we have not won a flag since 2020 and are getting progressively worse.

Admin coaches fans everyone just got too close to the players and it became too hard to make hard decisions.
We stopped looking for better and sat back and did very little. even in 2020 we had a aged team 27.40days average with just two juniors bolton 21 and Balta 21.

Most of our better players were fast approaching 30 or already there. There was lots of contentment and bath water being drank.
