This is ridiculous:
The quirky proposal relating to coaches on the bench reads: “club football officials continue to whistle from the interchange bench to get the attention of players, which interrupts the audio of match broadcasts. It is proposed to include a new regulation prohibiting whistling or making any other such noises to communicate from the interchange bench.”
Kane understood the regulation was quirky but explained there was a need to manage the way coaches and officials on the sideline interacted with players and particularly emergency umpires on the bench during games, with the regulation being a proactive step.
The AFL is so stupid it's scary.

Good to see that they're onto the important issues.

I haven't read that article, but is there any mention that this problem was caused by the rule change relating to runners a couple of years back?

The club should include a whistle with the membership packs.
That would stuff the afl and the umpires. Just imagine 30-40,000 whistles being blown at each and every game.

Don't tell me the AFL are bringing in another rule to fix up a *smile* up that another of their previous rule fix ups created.
Maybe if the broadcasters closed the windows to their broadcast boxes the whistling might not interfere so much, but that would probably silence some of the crowd atmosphere noise that the commentators have to shout over. Maybe even remove the camera and microphones from the bench / interchange area so that the club officials can actually do their jobs properly during a game.
Australian *smile* wits League in full swing again.

Ah yes, the AFL Circus continues be run by Clowns.

Everything they do is a knee-jerk reaction to the previous knee-jerk reaction which in turn was knee-jerk reaction etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum

I assume it means that for the 20 minutes after the game players must be available, not that they must be available for a 20-minute interview.

Just use the old 'the coach is calling us in the room, gotta go' trick.
