At least we can take it that Grimes has no structural injury to his face, given the MRP took the medical report into account when determining the penalty.
I think someone from the club should publicly come out and request what the definition of 'manifestly inadequate' is for such on field indiscretions. This makes ZERO sense.
The AFL discourages players going back with the flight. The old-fashioned stuff. And has done for some time, certainly in Demitriou's time and since.
It's done through the suspensions, or lack of them.
Do you see a lot of players going back with the flight these days? The way Grimes did? There are a hundred opportunities a game for players to go back with the flight but few do.
It was a huge moment in the game when Grimes went back. He was hesitant by his standards but did it anyway. And was knocked out by Membrey, who aimed a wide elbow at his head. Membrey had to reach because Grimes didn't come toward him as far as he expected. And but for reaching would have connected a lot harder.
Membrey connected well after Grimes had acquired the ball. It was not in play, rather a lunge after play.
Now, everybody saw what Membrey did. And only the deluded or the life virgin could imagine it was anything but deliberate and yet the penalty is not surprising.
The form guide is there for all to read. Players are mad if they go back with the flight. No protection from the AFL.
And hey, it's not like we'll ever see Membrey going back with the flight. He's frightened vengeance might be coming the other way.

Reckon you could be onto something there with the going back with the flight, Captin Jack. I fondly recall the days of Andy Kellaway taking saving marks almost every week, bravely running back with eyes only on the ball
