The Deledio analogy is a good one.

Dusty would also be wise to talk to Lids about his experience. I think I know what he would say in hindsight
Big difference
Lids wasn’t well liked and club was glad to see him go
Dusty is very loyal and has many friends at Punt Rd

We’re still going to have to find a new talisman soon, because I don’t think Dusty will play a lot longer after 2024. Then again, I never thought Cotchin would make it to 300.
Yep. I just can't see the next one on our list. Even in the dark days we always had a big drawcard player.

It's funny looking back on the Lids trade, partcularly the timing.

Given his personality, he is one player who i would struggle to see fitting into the whole Hero Hardship program. There isn't much humility about him, and given his chance to captain the side, would have been the worst choice possible. I could go into what i've personally witnessed of him off the field, but would rather not on a public forum.

It would be an interesting study to look at the evolution of the number 1 pick in the 2004 draft. That is to say, despite the personality, we got an exceptional football talent for the best years of his career.

We then got 2 draft picks when he was basically shot. If i have time, or if anyone else has time, it would be interesting to see what that 2 pick currency is on our current list.

Amazing trade that one. Hogg’s body was just about done and Fitzroy gifted us Broderick, Michael Gale & Dundas.
I think Fitzroy made the trade for the same reason the Suns gave pick 2 for Weller. They had a player they could actually recruit. And those 3 were coming to us either way, so they had to take what they could get.

Hows about the Manton Years
I blacked out between General Lee\Weightman and Hoggy.
But I was in primary school when weightman finished. The only Manton I can think of is that dude with the bolts in his aggots.

Good lord, I'd rather reminisce about Jurica and his 2 good games, even Bruce whipped out the Plugger comparisons. I'd be stoked with another Jeff Hogg by the way, but I do wonder whether he would cut it in this day and age. Quite a few successful forwards of yesteryear would struggle. Beasley probably doesn't make the record books for the most goals scored in the 80s, Minton-Connell probably struggles to play AFL, Longmire probably scores half the goals, even Matthew Lloyd might find life a whole lot more difficult.

Can probably add in Jason Heatley among others @bullus_hit
I would even add Capper to the list, don't think he gets away with much in this day and age, probably flattered by having Mitchell, Williams and Healy delivering low trajectory bullets. A guy like Allen Jackovich would be a player in this day and age, probably gets forgotten a bit due to the glut of champions around that time.

They'd also just lost Alistair Lynch to Brisbane so hmthey may have been hungry for another player who could play both full forward and full back
