When Brett Deledio left it was a bitter pill to swallow but it turned out to be exceptional business, I think we've got to be open to all eventualities. Dusty staying is also fine, he still has value and could plug a hole in the forward line for another couple of years. Therefore anything other than a first round pick would be untenable, a junk pick won't cut the mustard and if GC insist on being Cheap Charlies then we walk and Dusty can make a call next year.
100% Agree. Seemed like we'd given up letting Lids go. Although he was fading quickly and injured regularly.
Dusty is completely different. AA calibre season this year. I'd pay a portion of his salary to get pick 4 and another player to help their list thinning. That other player won't be Chol though. I want a young fella.

They’re not offering that from what I can gather

the one thing that annoys me about all the Dusty talk is the thought of Dimma getting in his ear ....

to the tune of... 'Jack's gone, Trent's gone, etc, blah blah..' you can bet that's what he did ...

and if he decides to ask to go? I'd be taking GC Buns to the cleaners for him ..

Don’t believe Dusty would have met with the GC coach and head of football to talk about the weather.
That doesn’t mean it will happen but it doesn’t mean it won’t.
It will only happen if Dusty wants it to and if he wants it both the Tigers and Gold Coast will do what they can to oblige.

Deledio a case in point, but the stakes, (and the compensation) considerably higher.
I've not seen it anywhere that he met with the head of football. The GC coach is also the person who coached him for a decade and won 3 Premierships with him. Not unusual that they would catch up.

I read here that the head of football was also present. What could be more authoritative than that?

Maybe he was saying to Dusty, if you sign , Cotchin and Riewoldt will come out of retirement.
I’m getting the gang back together

For all our advances in recent years I can not see us trading a generational talent, all time club and league legend who is still playing great footy and on the verge of 300 games for anything.

It would tarnish his legacy and I think he and the club know how important it is to be one club player.

The rest is scuttlebutt and clickbait.

Agree, I'd love to see Dusty finish his career with the Tiges. If Dusty wants a sea change, well that's a different matter. What did we get for Lids a 1st and 3rd round pick? That would be a good start to our rebuild/reset.

2024 the great man will be in the last year of his contract. Whilst we won't get 2017 Dusty, he'll lift a notch with the sniff of a fresh contract. Hopefully we remain in finals contention so he is further motivated.

The club won't let him go easily even if he wanted to, the club won't want to cop a hit to finances through reduced crowds and merchandise sales, which in turn reduces the club's attractiveness to sponsors.

The Deledio analogy is a good one.

Dusty would also be wise to talk to Lids about his experience. I think I know what he would say in hindsight

Wayne Campbell wrote a great article about Martin back in 2020.

Yep I don't believe in coincidences & just mates catching up on the GC. There would have been some sort of pitch to Dusty even if an informal one.
Why wouldn't you if you were Hardwick? The goat is a major reason Dimma won 3 flags & he is playing great footy still.
Be almost negligent to the Suns not to ask the question.

Whether Dusty says yes is another matter.

We had Richo to carry us through some baron, cold, and miserable winters.
Dusty provides the same reason to turn up to the footy. Worth every cent at the turnstiles and cannot be measured purely on wins and losses.
Must be retained as Shai Bolton can’t provide all the highlights on his own.
They sell hope. And memberships

We’re still going to have to find a new talisman soon, because I don’t think Dusty will play a lot longer after 2024. Then again, I never thought Cotchin would make it to 300.

That's a really good point. Without Jack, without Dusty. Not sure who the draw card is.
Shai is fascinating to watch and occasionally sublime, but also flakey. He alone isn't getting me to spend hard earned to go through the gates.

We need an icon.
