Dustin Martin

GC want to keep their points so if they were going to trade it would involve their player(s), not pick 4.
They're on the record having said they will trade that pick, it will be swallowed up and wasted otherwise. I'd imagine they'll look at getting later picks for this year and or trade into next season's draft...

They'll trade it for points, not Dusty. If they want Dusty they'll trade with players.

Quote from Peggy O'Neal in May 2022.
"Not that long ago he said to me 'I'll never be in anything but yellow and black' and so I'll hold him to that. For the next two years I'm certain that we can continue to watch Dustin play for the Tigers."

A little ambiguous?
Peggy Boss Lady !!

Even the Tiger King had that level of respect for her!.

2 x 1st round picks. One for the coach, one for the football manager. They can throw King in as well. Just because

Journo on SEN today said that it’s a FACT that Dusty will not be at GC next year. He said that GC, Richmond and Dusty management have all told him unequivocally that Dusty will be at Richmond next season.

That’s the good news, he went on to say that the GC could wait 12 months they could pick him up for nothing, that’s the not so good bit

That’s if next year he wishes too!

RFC 300 games
Future Hall Of Fame
Etc etc

But everything is pure speculation.

And we won’t be paying anything for one of ours to play somewhere else. That’s the idea that really boils my *smile*, especially for a champion like Martin.

Be like Dougie Hawkins in a Fitzroy jumper, Mick McGuane in a Carlton one or Sam Mitchell in a West Coast guernsey. Why would he?

Just *smile* with the legacy.
And the connection with the club.
LOok at the Hawks with Hodge Mitchell Birchall Lewis.
All but Mitchell have stronger links With their recent short term clubs.

And then there's Buddy and Burgoyne.
And Isaac Smith. Whose careers are split.
burgoyne the example of a hawks man not a port one.

hope Dusty stays

It's amazing how so many get caught up in the clickbait mainstream media drivel. There was no way Dusty would be going to GC, they can't afford him PERIOD. But it doesn't stop Whately and other journos from putting out garbage comments and articles without any substance to them. And this article below says Dusty is open to a move north or a different challenge, Says who?
If it hasn't come directly from Dusty's mouth then it's utter *smile*.

Could Suns even get Dusty deal done?

Gold Coast is officially out of the race for Dustin Martin given the difficulty in satisfying the Suns on a trade and the Richmond star on his massive salary.

Martin is open to a move north or a different challenge in footy but even before Thursday’s meeting with Damien Hardwick at a Gold Coast pub was aware the Suns move wasn’t happening.

The Suns would ideally like to consider ways for the triple Norm Smith Medallist to become a Sun.

But they couldn’t pay his $1.4 million salary, Richmond isn’t interested in a trade, and they don’t have the picks to satisfy the Tigers even if the first two issues were resolved.

So the club’s football department including Hardwick is on board with the fact that if Martin moves north it will be at the end of next year.

The Suns need to accumulate the points for rivals to bid on their trio of first-round academy selections as early as pick two (Jed Walter), pick 5 (Ethan Read) and pick 10 (Jake Rogers).

Suns are foxing.

This article is basically to get Richmond to pay part of his wage and lower our demands on picks, otherwise they'll take him next year as a free agent.

Not going to happen and there’s no way we would pay any of his contract and I highly doubt Dusty will go next year as a free agent! He’ll be 33 end of next year.

Dusty has all his mates at Richmond even though Jack and Trent have retired.

I don’t really have an issue with them taking him as an FA after 2024. I do object to us paying him to play his 300th in their colours. If he’s out of contract, and we either can’t or won’t satisfy his salary demands, and they can, then good luck to him. All of this ignores that neither Dusty or Carr have ever said he wants to move north, or if they have it hasn’t been said publicly. This is all part of the media’s weird obsession with parting Dustin Martin from Richmond. I wonder if that’s driven by the fact that he’s played them on a break for the last 13 years, and they’ve come out looking stupid each time.

When Brett Deledio left it was a bitter pill to swallow but it turned out to be exceptional business, I think we've got to be open to all eventualities. Dusty staying is also fine, he still has value and could plug a hole in the forward line for another couple of years. Therefore anything other than a first round pick would be untenable, a junk pick won't cut the mustard and if GC insist on being Cheap Charlies then we walk and Dusty can make a call next year.

Dustin Martin is the greatest finals player in the history of the game, and has just come off basically an AA season. His worth to other teams can’t be framed in normal terms around how much longer he’ll be around. If you’re a middle/higher team, the opportunity to inject the GOAT finals performer at somewhere near his best - even for two years - gives you a massive shot.
No ducks and drakes. No smart-arsery via media. You want the once in a lifetime opportunity to supercharge your OK team through a finals series with the the ultimate specialist?
Then pony up big or *smile* off.

Don’t believe Dusty would have met with the GC coach and head of football to talk about the weather.
That doesn’t mean it will happen but it doesn’t mean it won’t.
It will only happen if Dusty wants it to and if he wants it both the Tigers and Gold Coast will do what they can to oblige.

Deledio a case in point, but the stakes, (and the compensation) considerably higher.
