Dustin Martin

If Ralph Carr has his way, Martin will do a Farewell Season in 2025 where every week is a chance for that team/ground to say Good Bye to Martin. Probably followed by a camera crew and a commemorative video of the game produced and sold separately until the box set comes out.

Thank *smile* Martin wont have a bar of it.
You sure? He's released a couple of books and he hasn't retired yet. Dusty is pretty business savvy.

Dusty stays and plays his 300th at the Tigers= $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in merchandise sales
Dusty goes to the suns and plays his 300th= $ in merchandise sales

Not for a nanosecond can I imagine Dusty not playing full bore with us next year towards his 300th

And I reckon your $$$$$ analogy also works for the comparison of finishing his career with us compared to GC (or anywhere else)

I genuinely expect him to finish up as a 350 game one club player

I seem to remember a report from last year that Dustin had told Peggy he will only ever play in black & yellow.

Do you think he'll play for a great deal less as Jack, Shedda, Cotch and Richo did?
I wouldn’t have a clue what they were on towards the end of their career. But FWIW if his form is like this come end of 2024 then he is still worth $800k.

we'd need to pay him the back-ended $$ he is owed, but perhaps not the whole lot
Depends on how his contract was set up. If it written up as earning X Y Z amount in each relevant year than he'd be owed nothing. If it's written up as $ten mill divided up over eight seasons then he'd be entitled to an average out payment.
Pretty sure none of the players who've had a front ended contract have ever been made to hand back the over payments when they've done a runner on their clubs.

Unfortunately, the money would still be included in the salary cap:

'The criteria put forward by the AFL in the scenario is the player would have to be over 32 years old and to have served at least 10 years at that same club, with his money still being included in the salary cap.'
Wonder what the relevance would be of the listed veteran rule then???

The old veterans list was 50% in the cap as I recall.

Many posts suggest Dusty will make decisions based on the dollars.
No doubt its eye watering amounts.
But one thing Dusty has shown is he likes playing footy.
It is simply something he likes.
He also doesnt appear to struggle against the restrictions of elite athletism, as opposed to a Dane Swan. It seems Dusty can deprive himself during the season and remain committed to playing in optimum condition

Its why I can see him continuing to play beyond this contract.

He also seems to enjoy playing footy with his mates. I dare say he has a few at tigerland but knows only a couple at the suns

And won't it be a beautiful thing, 4 of the clubs greatest heroes from the one outstanding era all reaching the 300 game mark.

Think of it this way, in the previous 130 odd years before Shane Edwards reached the mark, we'd only had 3 players get there.

Quite remarkable imo.
Think about this stat. All our 300 games players have won multiple flags. Surely no other club can say that?
