Dustin Martin

The conversations to be had with Dustin (and presumably his manager) once the new coach is appointed are these in my view:
- do you want to remain a Richmond player for 2024? His answer may depend on who’s appointed coach, but I’d expect that to be Yes.
- Beyond 2024, how much longer do you want to & think you can play for? I’d think he’s got three years of quality football left (barring anymore serious injuries), but what does he think?
- What can Richmond offer you to extend your contract to the end of 2026? Presuming he wants to stay, surely this is sensibly negotiable.
- Assuming you want to stay until the end of 2026, would you like to be Club Captain? If he says Yes, I’d agree to it and we’ll worry about the media rubbish later - our current Captains are hardly in the media every week. He’s a natural leader looking on from the stands.

If he agreed to the captaincy, I’d have Liam Baker appointed Vice Captain for a logical transition into 2027.

Mature discussion ahead between club and perhaps now unarguably our greatest ever player.
There is so much “wrong” in this

He wants success. Won't happen at Richmond. Gold Coast on a 3 year deal would be hard to beat.

For the last few years Dusty has wanted to leave Dimma and go elsewhere. Now he wants to leave Richmond and join Dimma
For a notoriously private individual who won't speak to journos many of them seem to know what he is thinking.
I take it all with a grain of salt

We need to start again, no more flags at Richmond with Dusty I have no issue if he leaves.
Same thing with Lids, I was rapt he left, most here were not happy at all. How did that work out?

Dusty is an all time legend superstar of the RFC , should be a 300+ game player at one club and deserves the biggest send off from us once he retires
Cant put Lids in the same sentence

I don’t think Dusty goes to GC.

I think he plays the rest of his career with us.

But I am feeling he has only one game left.

This weekend.

I think he might retire when the season is over.

I am guessing that he will want to leave with a minimum of fuss.

No chance if this

Dusty is a business man , and is surrounded by business people

Retiring now is bad business

Could play for another 5 years

earlier in the thread I mentioned Jack talking to Mark Howard about Dustys 300th next year at the club...

you think he might know more than the twin twats Barrettt and Browne..

Barrett and Browne... sounds like a bad comedy duo... hang on, it is...

so at the end of the day I don't think he'll go purely because of the big $$ he is on.

but I think Streaker might have something.

Chimp and Jack were Dusty's two other amigos. He's given his all to the game and quite frankly doesn't play with passion very often anymore.

Nothing to prove. Everything to gain by slipping away behind a veil of intrigue to do his thing.

What happens to his $1.4m? Is it still in our salary cap if he retires?

I agree. Nothing to prove, but 1.2 million reasons to stay.

Good luck to him.

We have been reminded in recent weeks of his superb play (except kicking efficiency), but it's been really tough for the last three years for both player and club.

He might be happier in a non footy state and one of the northern clubs might be prepared to give him three years.

Win win.

Didn’t realise Brown, Barrett and Morris posted on PRE. Some of the posts on here are straight out of their playbook.

An old coach of mine used to say “you’re a long time retired”.

I can’t see Dusty walking away. Not when he is so close to a significant milestone and with all due respect to Dusty, he’s never going to see anything like that sort of coin again.

He’ll play on.

The mystery that is Dusty. He must laugh his guts out at the stuff that is written and said about him.

Not short of a dollar, he is loyal got no doubt about that. 99% certain he will finish up a tiger for life. And IMO we will still get 2 to 3 years of bloody top shelf footy from him. So Father Grigg says anyway. I'm in the he will stay a tiger for life camp!
