Dustin Martin

Dusty stays and plays his 300th at the Tigers= $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in merchandise sales
Dusty goes to the suns and plays his 300th= $ in merchandise sales
I went to a game at the Suns ground and there was about 50 people at the Tiges merch stand and about 3 at the Suns ..

Yeah. I’ve been to our game against them the past few years. I think I posted a pic here somewhere the first time I went and the queue for Tigers merchandise was staggering while the only people at the suns one were the ones behind the counter. The times I went after that not much changed

I wouldn’t have a clue what they were on towards the end of their career. But FWIW if his form is like this come end of 2024 then he is still worth $800k.
Sub 300k each of them.
Jack made it public late last year.
It was one of the enabling factors for the GWS duo.

Re Dusty:
Yeah nah. Kidney injury aside. he has had a three year body of work that just doesn't match a future big contract... and the marketing has been a complete bust until late July, 2023.

Good luck to him , but I am very worried about the new. generation of Tigers who at present are not even matching Hawthorn and North in their shown collective potential.
We seem to have blown a few highish draft picks and we clearly cannot support any more retirement plans.

Everybody loves Dusty, but I love RFC more. No extensions at high salary.

Dusty is still performing at an aa level

There are good arguments to say that next year he will be even better

Still worth $1 m a year , abd that’s without considering the marketing benefits for Richmond which will be at least 10 times that

Dusty is an outlier , everyone else can be shopped , but not the goat

And coincided with the Cats' golden era with veterans like Enright Bartel and Kelly still getting paid well
From memory it started out as two veterans could be paid 50% of their salary outside the cap. At most in those days probably being worth about $ 700 or $800 thou of a couple of superstars wages at the end of their careers. Then, when the Moggies had a raft of ageing star players it was suddenly altered so that clubs could pay $100 thou outside the cap of each of their veteran players instead of just two. Great for the Moggies, total garbage for any club with a young and developing list but bugger all veterans.

If we could get back the pick we gave up for Hopper you'd have to consider it.

Interestingly the papers say he was at the retirement dinner for Ziebell when Z got clubbed
Not quite. Believe Ziebs, his missus n a few others went out clubbing after the official footy club farewell function, then met up with Dusty, Tom Mitchell n maybe a couple more at the pub later.

not when North will get 3 picks in the top 5.
That pick will drop to like pick 8-9 by the time we actually get that pick, dusty is worth alot more then that.

I'm curious what Dusty is worth? Especially considering his reported contract in excess of $1.3-1.4million next season

Having a far better year than most people realise.

Should Dustin Martin be in the All-Australian team?

Stats guru Daniel Hoyne says it’s one of the easiest calls of the year.

Dustin Martin should be a “walk-up” for this year’s All-Australian team after producing numbers never seen before by Champion Data.

But stats guru Daniel Hoyne is worried the Tigers champ will be overlooked by selectors.

“Sometimes the superstars get compared to themselves as opposed to getting compared to the competition,” the Champion Data analyst said on Pure Footy.

“He should be a walk-up – here’s your jacket, what size are you, put it on next Wednesday night.”

“It’s frustrating when you hear people say, ‘He’s had an OK year’, but he hasn’t had an OK year, he has been frightening ... Since round 14 he’s the third-best player in the competition behind only Charlie Curnow and Jack Sinclair.”

Across the season, Martin is the fourth-highest rated forward under Champion’s 100X ratings system, behind Curnow, Toby Greene and Taylor Walker.

He ranks first among all forwards for disposals – averaging 23.1 per game – contested possessions and forward-50 ground ball gets, and fifth for score involvements.

Hoyne said the numbers were even more impressive because Martin was playing only 14 per cent of game time in the midfield.

“He plays 86 per cent of his time as a forward and he’s winning 23 disposals – that has never been done in 18 years of us capturing time in position data.

“No player who has spent 85 per cent forward time or more in a season has won more ball than Dusty has this year.”

The guy is spot on, get compared to himself rather than other players, should be a walk-up start.

100% spot on. There are 3 players who have had 20+ disposals and more than a goal a game this year.
Dusty, Shai and Petracca. That is it. They are the most damaging mid/forwards in the game.

Dusty is held to 2017 levels and if he doesn't hit those levels its seen as an ok season despite still being far more damaging than others.

Dusty's last 8 games have averaged 27 disposals, 4 clearances, 1.4 goals and 1.3 behinds. Elite.

We have played a lot of bottom sides in those 8 games. Plus large disposals doesn’t mean significant impact I look at Mitchell as an example got the numbers but they were cheap disposals and minimal impact or MG

Yeah but goal assists have suddenly become the gauge so it's Cryin all the way!
