Geez, some nervous nellies around.

He said he'd decide at the end of the year. And he will. Not sure how that makes it less chance he leaves.

No chance of going ILO.

hope ur right, But end of day if he goes RFC will move on

Good thinking. Without being vaccinated before arriving at North's training facilities, Chris might catch something and be unfit to coach against us in the finals.

On the mark again Leysy.

Think Dusty has painted himself into a hole. IMO we will likely know next week IF HE STAYS. His inaction must be having some impact on team preparation particularly if he remains silent.

I've heard (not from anyone good ) that he signed with us a few weeks ago and we are sitting on the info waiting for a good opportunity to unleash the news.
Specifically so the announcement doesn't distract the on field /coach and playing group.

If Scott meets Dusty's Dad, it's not for Kanga's surely. Its both to GC - and closer to Dad.

Closer to dad? What's the flight time from the GC to NZ in comparison to Melbourne?

Wonder what all his Brownlow memorabilia will be worth if he leaves. This is also his meal ticket, not just the match payments

And if RFC win the grand final, with also the memorabilia, fan engagement, dinners, marketing & advertisement of his "Dusty" brand.

To be honest, I can't see Dusty leaving the Tigers for North. Playing for a team with few members and possibly based in Tassie in the near future cannot compare to playing in Melbourne with 75,000 fans behind you. Unless the decision is purely money driven, Dusty will be staying I reckon.

It's easy to say 'Give him 7 years & pay him whatever he's worth' but no doubt the reality of that is far more complex.
That is a huge portion of the salary cap tied to 1 player for a substantial amount of time. It will make it not only more difficult to retain current players but much harder to bring new talent to the club. We don't get access to the RFC books but I've no doubt thats what they're grappling with.

Also a 7 year deal is only a serious injury away from being a lead weight around the club's neck.
Yes Dusty has been extremely durable so far in his career but as we have seen with Deledio it doesn't take much to curb a footballer's output as they start to age. The next 7 will be the back end of Martin's career. Who's to say this isn't the pinnacle of the bell curve right now?

I am just uncomfortable with tying so much to one player. 5 year deals are risky enough, 7 is madness.
If Dusty can get that (at $1.5m) from North then pat him on the back & wish him well.

Sadly this is true, there is a price that is too high. And we forget that Dusty is having the very best year of his career, it's great now but do you want to pay a declining 33 year old dusty $1.5m?

Very well said ToO. I really hope he stays but not for the money that is being touted or the length of time. If we give in to that then we are exposing ourselves as we struggle to hold players but more importantly, attract talent. We will never improve if we cannot do this. I love Dusty but there is a point when you say enough is enough and if he needs to leave to find that money then I wish him well at North or wherever he needs to go to get it.

I also worry about the unrest it may cause within the playing group if Dusty holds out for a huge payday (which is his right to do) and isn't prepared to give a little for us to improve our list. All other teams did it - Geelong, Hawks, they all took cuts to keep the team on track to win Premierships.

Whatever Dusty decides to do will be right for him. I just hope that the club does not get caught up in the hype and harm the club long-term. If we need to walk away then so be it as no one player is bigger than the club.

Well written TOO.

It's exactly how I feel and the path & my thinking .

Good luck to him if he the rumours are true.

Would be extremely upset if he chose and left on those terms.
Loyalty might be dead for me if this happens.

It seems North is offering an extra 300k per season or 2.1 million over the length of the contract.

Its never worked. Judd - Ablett - Franklin - Dangerfield .... Big names to move for ZERO flags at their new clubs. (whilst a couple have come close).

North wont play off in a Grand Final for at least 4-5 years. Brown aside their Spine isnt that special, they don't have the midfield depth and are post era of covering Fititto, Harvey, Petrie, Del Santo and loosing the always injured Wells to the pies. They would have done a cracking job in 2018 to return back into the top 8.

Dusty can join them knowing that he will probably still get his 35-40 touches, kick his 1-2 goals a game but Win Loss ratio will not look like Richmond 2017 (that would have looked even better with some poise in the last 60 seconds from earlier games we lost).

Yep unfortunately I think it's time to admit defeat no way Dusty his dad or Ralf will let him turn down 300k extra a year. Worst part is I don't think we can match the offer and force North to trade. If this happens it will leave a real bad taste in my mouth, we finally get on track after 30 odd years of *smile* and develop a once in a generation player only to have an irresponsible club come along and buy him away. Makes me feel physically ill
