Is Kelly a free agent? I didn't think he was. Just out of contract.

Yeah true, he would be way too young. Lose Dusty as FA, trade for Kelly and get compensation for Dusty?

Yeah picks 15,16,17 for Kelly ( or something very similar. Our two first round picks and dusty compo). Would people do it?

Everything is possible, Western.
Particularly if Martin were to walk from RFC.

Might be too much. Essentially Martin and two first round picks for Kelly.

I would match whatever offer is made.

It won't come down to anything ridiculous anyway. Just because there are reports of massive money being offered this doesn't mean the reports are accurate. So far there are no offers because it is against he rules to make them. The media are just speculating, making up numbers and reporting the speculation as fact.

Only madmen let players like this walk away for money. If an offer is made, match it. In all likelihood, he will sign beforehand anyway.
so what if Nth offer $1.5 x 7 years. Would you match it?

No way do you sign someone up for 7 years

I agree with you zipper - if it is the money factor then thank Dusty for his services and start looking to trade in some quality mids.

Bad thing is that most deals would already be agreed to in principle so we are a little late to the party with the big deals going on. If he is going, I hope he has indicated this to the club so they can start looking now for replacements. Would hate for him to leave it much longer as we won't be getting much in return. As it stands, we cannot get involved in any talk for trades with the bigger named players as we don't know if we need to replace Dusty or not. Won't have the cap space to lure them if he stays I wouldn't think.

All in Dusty's hands I am afraid and he needs to do the right thing by the club soon.

First player you chase if he leaves is Rockiff.
You get rid of some dead wood and then your in the market for Kelly or Hopper

Keep picks worse case senario

interesting tactics. 18-19 weeks of very little from Carr, then attending Nth Melb Functions in Hobart, met with the Hawks??, the paparazzi snapping Dusty and him having coffee, some sound bites to the media about making a call before the finals and then an optimism from the reporters that he will remain a Tiger..... then 10 days of silence.

Usually when things go quiet there is nothing more to report, no more lucrative offers from other clubs, no more Tigers upping the offer etc...

If a deal has been done and keeping it to announce for an adder pre finals "spur", then Richmond's ability not to leak this is a testament to Peggy's/Benny's administration

you're easy to please if you think that the lack of leaks makes their administration great. :hihi

Yes. We're not obliged to actually sign him if we match it. Didn't Adelaide match danger then trade with geel?
We match a massive offer then tell dusty we're not keeping you and open it up to all teams for a trade and we take best offer for US!! Dusty can go to wherever we get best offer. stuff him if he's gonna be like that!!

If thats what eventuates then thats what the RFC should certainly do.

No Adelaide threatened that they would match the offer. Geelong and Adelaide traded Dangerfield. Dangerfield accepted an offer from Geelong that was well under what he could have got. Dusty doesn't have to go wherever we get the best offer. He can just nominate for the draft instead. I think it would be foolish to play that game and potentially end up getting nothing for Dusty if he were to leave (which I don't think he will).

i would assume by matching the offer we would actually have to offer a contract that he could then sign. not just pretend to.

As I've said, he's a rare talent and great when on fire. BUT, if Dusty had form of consistently starring in big games I would give him 5 years. 7 years is a lot for a player who can go missing when the whips are cracking.

yeah so we threaten to match the offer and then work out a trade same as danger. But can't we work out a trade with any club? And persuade dusty that he best accept that as in the draft ur going to Bris or carl likely. Good luck with that!
If he nominates for draft we still get a compo don't we. At least this way we try and trade. Compo is giving us 10% of his worth
