We gave Lids a 5 year deal BT.

And Cotchin, if I recall correctly.

I would accept a 7 year deal but agree with others that he needs to perform well this September.

Would hate to lose him though, especially because he is every young tiger kids favourite player.

That all may be true but they haven't actually won anything for a long time.
Yep.
Us and them the only teams bar the newbies who havent made a gf this century.

Can't believe people are willing to part ways for arguably the best player in the comp.

We are almost on the cusp of some serious success and we want to p!ss that away.

If Dusty goes we might as well not stop there.

Trade out Rance, Riewoldt and Cotchin and start the same thing all over again,

Might as well wait another 30 odd years. ::)

We don't have any choice in it. Not worth wasting emotion on imo. If Dusty wants to play for us enough he'll stay. If not he'll go. Would much prefer him to stay for the right reasons. If he wants to go then c'est la vie. I want players who are 100% committed to the club direction.

Not as simple as people are making this out.

There has not been a premiership won in the history of the AFL and a real salary cap and TPP where a teams best player gets paid market rates.

It just doesn't happen

For us to win a premiership everyone has to take unders and commit to the team.

If Dusty insists on getting paid what the market is ( $1.3m x 7 years ) we can kiss any premiership chances we have good bye.

Has Dusty ever commented publicly about his contract status? Until someone can produce for me a horse's mouth account of Dusty saying he's going/staying/luvs da ca$h and wants RFC to #make-it-rain, everything is so much speculation.

Talk of loyalty and value are misplaced I reckon. Dusty plays the best way he knows how each week. At the moment his best is very close to the best in the land. He is helping his teammates achieve success the likes of which haven't been seen at Punt Road in decades. That's where his loyalties lie right now. What's his value? Whatever the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league is worth. If GAblett sucks Geelong into paying for a merc who is holding 2 clubs to ransom whatever Dusty gets is going to look like unders.

its a good point. Team buy-in, big picture. Get the big money sure, to a point.

If GWS took Dusty, and we took Kelly, would we both get compensation picks?

We should take Ralph at his word now and wait until seasons end which is after the finals.
If Dusty slays it at the business end then pay him the big bucks.

another good point

If he doesn't slay it, his value will drop as who will pay $1.3 x 7 years or whatever for a player that doesn't perform in finals.

In Jon Ralph's chat today he basically said we have no money to chase stars and are going to move forward hoping Hampson can ruck and Nankervis and Griffiths can paly forward while the young key forwards we draft develop, he again said we are not interested in Casboult, if Dusty goes all this will change . All of words to that effect.

I wonder if the club is considering bundling up its 2 first round picks (currently 15-16 or thereabouts) to try and get a top 5 pick and grab the best available tall in this years draft? What a shame Geelong aren't in the bottom 5 this year.

Don't believe that.

Martin is already being paid so it is only the increase in the salary that affects us and the timing is perfect as the Salary cap has been increased by $2million. Martin's increase might take $500k of that and other upgrades will be accommodated with surplus cash left after that.

Add in the retirement of Maric would free up an annual salary amount approximately the amount that Casboult is after we cannot be poor.

Unless we have also signed someone like Kelly from GWS ;D

aren't we paying some of Deledio's contract as well? And if rumour is true about us offering Dusty a sign-on bonus under this years cap, it would mean we are not paying 100% in 2017 (or perhaps some of our players have contracts that are not tied to the 20% wage increase).

Last year Western Bulldogs included Tom Boyd on fair coin

It would have to be a possibility , a lot of the draft experts seem to be going colder an colder on this draft, some seem to not rate anything after the first round, it's going to be a tough call in this off season as I don't think there's any real quality young KPFs on the list at present and the free agents I think are only gap filling C graders, if we don't have cap room , drafting a young key forward may be the only option, however how good is the kid will take with our pick or picks ?

On the Cats loss it was a double whammy, we could have got them out of the top 4 and possibly a loss in week one of the finals .

Differnce is with Dustys body type he could easily be a permanent fwd in his last few season and bury 40+ goals.

Not so certain about the durability of Dusty's body type. 1.3mill for 40 goals :-\

Wasn't King Carey earning around a mill a year in his last years at North?

Dusty is the best player to breeze through Punt Road in decades. He is worth every cent.

Just sayin'.

2010 - 21 games out of 22
2011 - 22 games out of 22
2012 - 20 games out of 22
2013 - 23 games out of 23
2014 - 22 games out of 23
2015 - 23 games out of 23
2016 - 22 games out of 22
2017 - 20 games out of 20

Dusty has missed 3 games in his entire career and no games since 2012.

although to be fair, Deledio had similar durability. he missed a total of 4 games in 9 years (2005-2013) and played 6 consecutive seasons without missing a game (2008-2013).
