Dustin Martin

Listening to a podcast with Caro and Baum and both think that with the big delay that Dusty is goneski.

The logic being... why would he wait this long only to re-sign. Fair point too really.

That is the worry. If the dollars are big and he is happy, there is no logical reason for him not to sign now.

Yeah he's worth more than 900-1mil. He's the best player in the comp. Fyfe got 1.2m.
Gee geel got a great deal with danger. Wat 900k he's on? unbelievable!!!!

well what are we waiting for just pay Dusty 1.5mil and we can all feel good that we have the best player in the comp. I thought we were after a flag? Freo don't have a flag but they do have Fyfe - so your point is valid but only if we want the best player.

He was never going to go - cant believe we will overpay for someone who was never going.
if we pay more than 900k - 1mil per year we are nuts.

Someone would have to offer 1.5mil for 8 years for Dusty to leave. it aint going to happen.

You have to remember that the salary cap will increase by 20% next year so a $1mil contract then becomes $1.2mil.

Although I think you will find the deal we have put to Dusty is about $1mil a year for 6 years, which was up from our original offer of $800 if media reports are correct.

Following his suspension, I am expecting Dangerfield to play a blinder against the Tigers in the round after this one. And expect every Geelong player to be on Martin's hammer for the duration of the match. It's going to be a cauldron-like atmosphere down at cat park.

He's trying to extort maximum value from the club, and the offers are likely to increase if he waits. I don't think it's an unreasonable tactic, unless he stretches it right out and leaves at the last minute.

Exactly, think we will up our offer one more time and he will sign. Hopefully first week of finals for a bit of team lift! (then we will lose)

No need to offer more than 1mil for 6 years which becomes 1.2 mil next year and beyond.

I'm backing the club to hold on this deal. If he wins the Brownlow he'll get a bonus and we'll likely honour the 20% increase (which they have asked for this year) too.

Anything more is stupid.

Freo can afford to pay Fyfe 1.2 mil because he's their only good player. We have 4 A graders we need to keep happy and are building a premiership list. They are far from it.

What delay? He said at the start of the season that he would wait until the end of the season. I don't get all the conspiracy theories that Carr is doing this and that. Dusty is doing exactly what he said. I assume he wanted to wait until the end of the season originally to see what sort of season we had, another dud one and he chases the money and a flag somewhere else. A good one with upside in the next few years and I always thought he would stay and nothing has changed that.

Everyone knows someone that knows something ,
Here's mine , a good mates niece is married to one of his best mates ( can't mention names )
He says he is happy and doesn't want to leave ,
that is the main thing in our favour , he doesn't actually want to leave .
I'm guessing though ,( my reading between the lines ) all offers will be weighed up all the same

What conspiracy theory is mentioned? Where is Carr mentioned? If you read the post you quoted it is that Baum and Caro reckon he is most likely gone, and they feel this way because he still hasn't signed; everyone knows his value so waiting won't up it any more than it is. Does everyone think he is a star player? Yep. Do the Tigers think he is a champion? Yep. Is the offer a good one? Yep. Not too many players in his contract position 'waiting until the end of the season' if you look around...

Personally, I am on the fence but think that there is smoke and a reasonable chance he is going to walk for the extra cash. Hope I'm wrong though!

Martin should stay and become a Tiger ledged , more $$$ made after he retires...
If Martin goes for an extra 2 hun per year then faak off dont come back ....

Yeah probably not the best use of the quotes from me. Quoted your post due to Caro and the "delay" and then commented on the conspiracy theories flying round about Carr and looking only after his interests, blah, blah, blah, Dusty has never changed his tact on this. I reckon initially he was sussing out what sort of form and near term success we have ahead of us. Now its about maintaining his form and making she he gets a great deal, probably his last contract negotiation so needs to spend the time to make sure he is 100%.

Always thought he would stay and still in that camp. Sure theres still a risk but an announcement after round 23 is favourable to us.

Geez, its worth adding an extra yr or 2 onto dustys contract just so we don't have to deal with Carr again. 7yrs... just do it... lets not go through this again...

this should have been done 2 years ago. , should have given him4-5 last time, no dealing with carr crap, and we would have also been in a much better financial situ.

we gotta pay up now, but hes worth it!!
7 years is too long an investment tho.

Word on SEN is that Dusty would re-sign today, but Carr's convinced him to hold off til all offers are in, which is reasonable business.

Waiting for a tweet update to announce RFC press concurrence at 2pm (any day - the sooner the better) . Dusty pen on paper. My view from the Carr dribble overnight opens the door for a pre Round 23 announcement (again hope more than its actual going to happen).

Its almost black and white its North or Richmond. Was Carrs attendance in Hobart with North more theatrics to show Richmond "come on guys, up the offer a touch"? ..... and now we are the "final" Richmond offer on the table. It was long drawn Dusty but here is your $1,350,000 !!! 6 years, now go with the Tigers a flag or two.

Till he clears his locker, says good buy to his mates including the bromance with Trent, I'm hanging in there. :yellowno

Gee not the report I listened too, made it sound like North will miss out on Kelly and will throw everything at Dusty and basically how could he refuse?
