Assuming that nothing is sorted till the end of our year, which could be after the Grand Final ;D

Does this leave us in a way floundering in trying to recruit players or player into our franchise.

I remember Gale not so long ago stating that "time is approaching" in regards to which way he was leaning, with 5 rounds to go and possibly finals at which point does our club need to know.

Or does the club already know..mmmm

I reckon they do, lots of love been said about Dusty the bloke not so much the footballer by senior players and coach.

No idea what Dustys doing, we can read whatever we want into what's been said, fact is his still not signed.

If Martin were to leave RFC (which I don't think will eventuate) then at least he would depart having given the Tigers his best season of football, to date, in his career ... for what that's worth.

Won't be worth much unless we win the flag.

The Swans may already have to lay off Tippet, Reid and possibly Jarrad McVeigh amongst others as it stands, so how will they be able to pay the $$$ required to get Dusty he'd probably chew up Tippett and Reids salary alone.

Tippett was signed up when they had their COLA apparantly they don't have it anymore.

Their cap issues already cost them Nank and Mitchell last year.

Even taking into account the new cap from the deal surely they cant afford a godfather deal of what would likely need to be in the vicinity of 1.4 to 1.5 Million a year.

If Martin ends up at the Swans or GWS (who are feeling the crush of the salary cap right now) ............................ shenanigans on the AFL.

At the end of the day he's a RFA so we just need to match any offer if we want too. It's a tough call. If he ends up single handed LY winning a team a premiership we'll be looking back thinking an extra 300k a year would have been worth it. It's just 6 other blokes on 50k less a year.

Had a chat to very senior RFC source tonight. Things I learnt:

- we think his old man is the biggest problem. We think he is driving from NZ and pushing Dusty to negotiate the biggest deal at any cost

- we think Carr is a waste of space (nothing we didn't know). He has ni idea what he's doing. Asking dumb questions. We have strategised to play nice to him and not get him fired up like last time eg when Benny and Balmey come out saying we are working hard with Ralph to get the deal done (Carr was responsible for shopping Dusty around last time and there was no interest and he came out looking like a tool)

- we know we have the ability to match any offer but we won't be selling the farm to do so. If a club comes in with a ridiculous offer (1.5m), we will walk away. We are not interested in giving up a Shane Edwards (yes bad example but I didn't say anything) just to accommodate Dusty.

- apparently Dusty snuck out to NZ after the Lions game. It is our feeling that, following that, he now just wants to get it done. He has come back to the club full of love and enthusiasm since returning and evidenced by the way he interacted and celebrated with his teammates on the weekend. Let's hope that is the case but it was just a gut feel and we don't know either way.

Other snippets:

- the club is so excited with Shai (not so excited about him joining Ralph's stable). Balmey is talking him up big time. My source wouldn't be close to match committee but thought we might see Castagna getting a rest and Shai coming in. I asked about Rioli needing a rest and the view was he may have turned a corner last week as evidenced by some of his defensive efforts and tackling. Commented on what such a quality individual Rioli is which is pretty clear for all to see

- I raised Casboult and got the feeling we are not interested (or perhaps hasn't been discussed at my source's level yet). His kicking was commented on. I get the feeling we don't want to crowd Jack too much with a dominant contested mark. I suspect we would be happy to see how Jack and the mozzies play out before deciding what to do on that front.

All food for thought

Wow, some awesome intel there. Thanks BrisTiger.

Thanks Bris.

Also heard yesterday evening on SEN that the Tigers still have scope with the increase in the TPP ( 20% increase ) that Dusty could be paid that amount this year.

Dustys contract is not aligned to that increase, so I don't really know what the issue then with the hold up.

Look I just think Dusty is holding out for even a bigger pay day if he continues in this form and we play finals, win a final or two and if he wins the Brownlow ???

All valid points.

I'm hearing he is on $600k so 20% he could get $120k this year with the increase and then a further $720k , so all up another $840k on top of the $6 million over 6 on the table.

I think that's about fair.

Can't be held to ransom by any player as much as it would hurt losing Dusty.

He has to remember that the club has been good to him, taken care and supported him when no suitors wanted him. I know this time it's different and arguably the clubs best player and close to the best in the AFL if not the best.

I think $1.5 ? Figures being rumoured are irresponsible and might be utter bull dust( sorry).

$1.12? Is bloody good pay day.

Great stuff, Brisvegas.

Maybe the sydney thing has legs....
Makes sense for dusty to defer talks.
Deal would involve sydney offloading tippet etc to make space.
Once this happens maybe they can than make a play.

Not only will we go nuts , the football world will if he ends up at the Swans.2 blokes on a mil plus, then Parker Kennedy Hannerbery etc

Great work BT.

The same Tim Watson who said. Essendon will be found not guilty, that no player would be suspended and that Jobe would not loose his brownlow.

Headline capturing gutter journalism. If I make a few comments on nothing I factually know I'll be the news of the morning. Dont have to be a genius to make a call that can only go in one of two directions.
