I hate "Richmond Tigers" too - so Americanised! I see it a lot in Fairfax headlines (but not the actual articles), presumably to distinguish us from Wests Tigers/other inferior teams of other inferior codes for SMH readers. Not convinced that's necessary, and it's just plain wrong. Always suggests a writer who really doesn't know our game - a bit like saying "the Coldplay band".
