Dustin Martin

But if we bring in another FA, like Reid, then that would subtract from the pick we get for Dusty.

I think they're playing it so we're forced to match the highest bidder. They've mentioned it a few times, and so has Gale. Hopefully other clubs see through it and don't make a monster offer (and hopefully they don't see through it and DO make a fake monster offer forcing us to match).

While I hope dusty stays if he were to go the club we will match any offer made and for the trade hopefully it's with St Kilda as We would be asking for a least two first round picks in this years draft

Best options for us are
1. He re-signs (sooner rather than later)
2. We match and he stays
3. We match, but he requests a trade
We can still bring in FAs without affecting compo

Worst case
He knocks our offer back and nominates another club, the other club doesn't meet our demands, no deal can get done (unlikely, but it may not be the best deal we get but better than anything else) then he goes to the draft (with his nominated contract terms) and we get compo, depending on who else we bring in as FA

We will match any offer. Why wouldn't we? He is a top 3 player in the AFL.

Once matched, he either stays or the club that wants him has to trade and that will be a minimum of a first round pick, a second round pick and a young player, the Dangerfield equivalent.

Personally, I think the biggest danger is Sydney. The AFL will be keen to get another star up there to tide them over for a few more years, which is why they are trying to offload Tippett and don't appear able to re-sign Reid and Jones. They are trying to make room for Martin.

Best case scenario if it is Sydney is we swap Dusty for their first pick, Jones and say, Allir Allir. Then we sign Reid as a free agent.

The dumbest thing we can do is chase Tippett. As long as Sydney are stuck with his contract, they are limited in what they can offer Dusty.

My guess as to what will happen is that Carr says we have this offer from such and such a club, Richmond match it, Dusty stays quite happily on maximum coin and we chase a free agent.

Just keep away from Tippett, for the love of Pete.

Club have said to now Dustys contract is not a distraction, however since Bennys interview I think it is about to become an issue, especially with off field negotiations . Media are now circling

With Bennys tone and a few rumours , makes me think the club may have heard some things

I get the feeling the club is not as confidant of keeping him as first thought.

Still think Dusty is waiting to see if we can become genuine finalists.

I think we are helping him make up his mind.

Gale was on 360 earlier in the week seemed somewhat confident I thought.

Different sort of confidence yesterday in the interview bringing up the RFA and the ability to match the offer..

We have a report whether it's true or not from Stevo stating that the Merkin had met 2 clubs over the weekend.

I'm assuming that the Merkin has met many clubs and it seems that there are 2 serious bidders that perhaps are offering something that we can't or won't match...

it seems now that the RFC ( knowing and even made mention and were quite happy of the fact that a decision was coming at the end of the season) now not so it seems.

Are we into the ear of someone who we can get into the club that requires some serious round table negotiations and the Dustin Martin play is delaying us from doing so.

The CBA is the clincher I reckon and this effects all parties involved whetether it be the Merkin show, RFC or the bidding parties...

Interesting times, it will be a sad day if the bloke leaves personally.

I suppose best case scenario is he stays, however it's starting to look like will be paying 1.2 minimum , that's a lot of extra coin over 5 or 6 years that could be going towards others, especially when you consider Dangerfields on 800k

Why would he go to the draft if the other club has made an offer we can't match?

And how could we get compo if he goes to the draft?

I think I said we match the contract but he still wants to go to the other club. The other club has to trade, whether the trade is acceptable to us we take it, if it's not acceptable he can nominate for the draft and take his chances.

You're probably right. If he goes to the draft we don't get compo. My mistake. Not sure if any RFA have done it. So not sure of that scenario or the rules around it. The afl would probably say we had the chance but didn't accept the trade, depending on what was offered of course.
I just hope the hawks don't finish last. PSD option if it still exists, he staysin Victoria, could be attractive to him. Too many permutations

Really not fussed if Dusty stays or goes.
If he loved the club he would have come to terms by now.
I would say he is assessing his options for future success, knowing at 25 he has to make a call.
Our years of poor recruiting under Francis Jackson have really come to roost.
A thin list low on talent, and right now lacks the class and polish to close out the tight games.
Injuries have exposed us especially in the tall department, and it will take years to improve this list.
The more this contract saga goes on, the more I think Dusty is not willing to wait around for things to improve.

Agree. Years of butchering the draft has come back to haunt us.
Top 20 picks like Ellis X2 conca lennon Vickery Griffens.

If he goes it won't be all bad we could reset with possibly 4 new quality kids.
Look at melbourne Oliver Petrecca and Seow

If he wants out, and the team he comes to terms with can't deliver 2 picks inside ten, then let him go to the draft.

I'm sure the Lions will be thrilled to have him.

Whether its the Saints, Swans, Bombers or Roos, if they can't come up with two top ten picks, then you miss out. I don't care where you get them from, or who you have to let go to do it, that's the price.

Otherwise, Brisbane, here he comes.

People jump to conclusions quick is all I'm getting from this.
The club has to get all its contracts in order not just Dusty's.
They've put forth you would think a nice offer and probably want him to sign on now or let them know he wants more.
If he is to stay I'd rather he do it now so the club knows what kind of coin they have to attract more talent.
