Of course it is but we aren't in it. With ralph meeting clubs while dusty is playing is rather poor. Ralph wouldn't be having these meetings if dusty didn't want to leave. Just a matter now as to which club. Can sydney afford him?

What a completely ridiculous statement. It's Carrs job to meet with clubs and drive up the price to get him the best deal. It's modern football, doesnt mean he doesnt want to stay means Carr is doing his job.

Carr's job is to act in the best interest of his clients. That does not necessarily always mean getting more money but I have little doubt Carr is or ever has acted in his clients best interests. I think Carr is one pushing for Martin to explore his free agency options and for no other reason than to serve his own ego.

If memory serves me correctly, Martin had to accept a slightly reduced amount last time because of Carrs botched handling of the negotiations. Now Carr wants payback and he's manipulating Martin to get it. Unless something changes Richmond is going to lose out on this deal. Either Martin walks or we pay way overs to keep him.

Breaking news Martin to Sydney. Richmond to play hard ball have asked for Mark Bayes and rod carter in return

Carr shopped him around in 2013, no takers so had to accept Richmond reduced contract.
In 2015 Dusty re-signed without any fanfare or attention.
As an RFA Carr can shop him around till the cows come home. We have the right to match any bid, if we care to, otherwise it's a trade or into the draft and takes his chances.
I'm comfortable with our position, I'm sure we'll give him a fair value based contract. If he knocks it back no amount of teeth gnashing will change things. It's the way the game is.

Agree Mappa, every right to do what they are dong. Needs to ensure he get's what he is worth. Don't forget he has to repatriate funds back to his old man in NZ ;).

Good post. Sure at the very least Carr wants to maximise DM's deal. It plays into their hands too that he is a RFA. It's our one defence, but it could well lead us having to pay overs to keep him. The damage here is still to RFC's bid to create a premiership capable list now while our top 4 are in their prime.

If you look at the most successful clubs in recent years, Dawks and Cats, they achieved it by having many of their quality players agree to less $$$ in order to finance the top shelf acquisitions. We need to lure another A-grader or two - KPF and Mid. I wonder to what degree the Schache offer may have been compromised because RFC is hampered in this situation. Not sure he was worth that much, but did we withdraw since we are in 'no man's land' re how much list money we have available?

Agree that we must know soon whether Dusty wants to stay. Why should this be allowed to drag on till the end of the season?
Everyone knows that deals arent made last minute. Decisions are made during the season, the player would have already decided whether he would stay or go
The longer it takes for a player to publicly make their intentions known You can bet theyre :wave :wave :wave

Unfortunately, I can't see Carr/Dusty making a decision early just for the benefit of the club unless it's to sign with the Tiges. Benny's dreaming if he thinks that Carr is going to tell the RFC early that they're going to sign elsewhere and with whom.

What needs to happen/change to allow Dusty's Dad back in the country?
How long is the ban?

If we could somehow facilitate this I reckon Dusty would almost play for free having Pop back.

Nah disagree - Carr is doing his job (rather poorly in my view) to see what options he has for his client - I don't think Carr cares what Martin thinks - just look back to him dragging Martin up to GWS - everyone except Carr knew Martin didn't want to be there.

The 'ban' is for life. He aint coming back.

Really interesting that he led the team with 11 contested possies yet he was parked up forward for the majority of the game and looked like he was struggling with injury. We basically need him and Cotchin to fire for us to win a game.

The longer it goes, the less likely he is to stay.

The CBA will tell everything.

Once that is signed off and made public, if Carr then still insists on waiting until the end of the season, then it's all over IMO.

There are some interesting points out of this whole Martin contract.

There has been no whiff from the media that he has signed or come to terms with another club. Any other player movements are usually known in media circles before it happens (except for Buddy). That gives me some hope that he 1. is staying or 2. hasn't made up his mind yet.

Carr might be getting offers from all clubs and will sit Dusty down at the end of the year and lay them all out then Dusty can weigh up his options from a money and premiership potential perspective.

Dusty might have told Carr he is staying but to see what other clubs are offering so they can go to the Tigers to say 'club A, B, C have offered Dusty this' and wring as much out of us as possible. This is worst case for us because we can't prepare for trading and free agency ourselves because his offer will be, relatively speaking, such a large part of our salary cap. If Dusty is to stay, he needs to realise hampering the club like this will have a direct impact on the club's ability to build the best possible team around him.

From what I've heard from Gale recently, he sounds uncertain.
Richo last night was confident he was staying but maybe Dusty is the only one who knows and after the horrible season we had last year it is, unfortunately for us, worth his while to see what the future may hold for the Tigers before making his mind up.

I think he will stay but if the wheels fall off over the second half of the season and we don't make finals, we could be in trouble.

Then unfortunately they are not treating the club with respect. I do not believe Cotchin, Jack or Rance would do it this way. Dustin and his manager are acting very selfishly, he is one of the best players in the comp but if he's playing a bidding war bugger him. Go and unravel like your father.

What is our best case scenario regarding compo?

I think band 1 . The next pick after our 1st round pick, depends where we finish
That's what the hawks got for Buddy, ended up being pick 19.

There are 5 bands of compensation
• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result. *

Not forgetting that any compensation is based on net loss.
So if we after compo for Dusty, it would be affected by the value of any FA we bring in. For instance if we brought in Sam Reid on a hefty contract, they weigh up the respective compo for Dusty and Reid. Reid might get Sydney a band 2. We could effectively end up with a band 2 or 3 for Dusty.
It would probably be our worst scenario, to lose Dusty and bring in other FAs

We would need to force a club to trade by threatening to let him just nominate for the draft. (He could end up at Brisbane)
