Dustin Martin

Exactly. I'm sure with Dusty its not all about the $'s / year but the overall package. He will want a 5-6 year deal. Reckon $1.1m for 6 years, might get it done. $6.6m all up.

Good reward for a very good player. 1.1/6.6 to stay is a offer he couldn't/shouldn't refuse.

Based off what his good mate Swanny just said on fox footy, not going anywhere. Loves Richmond.

Dane Swan says Richmond’s success this season will go a long way towards keeping Dustin Martin at Tigerland
COLLINGWOOD champion Dane Swan believes Richmond’s success this season will go a long way towards keeping good friend Dustin Martin at Tigerland.

Martin has been linked to a number of clubs, including North Melbourne and Essendon on as much as $1.6 million per season, as the restricted free agent plays some of the best footy of his career.

But Swan — who has spent plenty of time with Martin outside of footy — believes the star is driven by on-field success, and that the Tigers are close to achieving that.

“He’s in a very good spot, he loves Richmond and he’s playing some incredible footy there,” Swan told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

“And I think Richmond is just on the verge of some success which they haven’t had for a long time. Speaking to Dusty, I know that’s something that drives him, not just the big contract which he’s gonna get no matter what but playing finals.

“There’s light at the end of the tunnel with Richmond ... and I think that’s going to go a long way to helping him stay there.”

Martin, who finished third in the Brownlow Medal last season, has arguably been even better this season. He is currently a close second to last year’s winner Patrick Dangerfield in most betting markets for the award.

The recently retired Swan revealed that Martin has been participating in extra training sessions to keep himself ahead of the rest of the league.

He also praised Richmond for allowing Martin to travel to New Zealand to visit his dad during the club’s bye week.

“I’m sure he’ll do the right thing, he’s been doing extra sessions, boxing once or twice a week to keep himself fit and ahead of the rest of the pack,” Swan said.

“So I’m sure he’ll be doing whatever he can over there to get himself right for in two weeks’ time with whoever they play.”

Swan joked that Martin’s bye week exploits wouldn’t be quite the same as what the pair have gotten up to in previous times away from footy.

“Yeah, times have changed a little bit. There’s a lot more camera phones these days so you can’t get away with what you could,” he said.

100% correct zipps.

Funny thing is Melbourne never seems to cop the same crap about overlooking him for Scully and Trengrove as we do for overlooking Buddy.

That's because they are insignificant and we're not!

Watson just said that he would take Kelly in front of dusty.
He must be on the same *smile* Jobe's on

"The recently retired Swan revealed that Martin has been participating in extra training sessions to keep himself ahead of the rest of the league."

Fantastic to see some of our establish players really challenge themselves to achieve. JR also doing extra sessions too. This is what makes players excel.
Hopefully this might help drive a few more players.
A couple of weeks ago, good 'ol P Roos probably gave his only complement towards RFC I have heard in a long time by stating "They are playing sustained finals type of football. Great to watch" (words to that affect).

maybe it needed the crap and pathetic year we had last year for the big wake call needed in RFC.
Fingers crossed, this season is very tight.

I have a weird feeling we'll win the premiership this year. Truly do.

Also feel now Dusty will stay and we'll be paying around $1.2 to $1.3 mill a year for 5 yrs

Trading pick 2 for Dom Tyson instead of drafting Kelly or Bont is a ripper too.

So many to choose from. They make Frank look like a genius.

Teams often need to do this, easpecially at clubs that are trying to drag themselves up.

Years of poor culture means that the knowledge of how to be successful is not quite there. Often they go through a cycle where they emerge, then either get ahead of themselves or are happy to be better than they used to be. Not enough players get it.

It is not until they have a year in which they go backwards that the penny drops. Cotchin, Rance, Riewoldt, Martin, Grigg, Astbury and Grimes all look like they have much more steel about them.

In recent times, all the multiple Premiership teams, Hawthorn, Geelong and Brisbane have followed this pattern of emergence and losing ground, before emerging again in a more sustainable way.

Last year, I saw a lot of similarities between the 2016 Tigers and the 2006 Cats. Still see it.

Melbourne took tregove over Martin, traded pick 2 to gws for Tyson and another pick (gws took kelly with pick 2) and took toumpas over wines. Could have had martin kelly wines.

Hope so. Its feels different. Back on topic, hope Dusty feels enough of the cultural change to stay too.

From board challenges down to the players. massive wake up call last year. In a way glad it happened. Put the spotlight in the right places.

I think Dimma said we needed to take a step back to move forward at the start of last year. Last year was a mini rebuild with the introduction of a lot of kids throughout the season and towards the end of the year results didn't really matter. He said he had the best list he has had in his time in charge. Put his balls on the line and said he expected to play finals this year when all the football world had us finishing in the bottom half of the ladder.

Not that I think we will win the flag this year, but perhaps he isn't as stupid as many around here think he is.

He also said last year that he was very confident of making the finals this season. Looking good so far, crazy like a fox is our Dimma.
