Its pretty obvious the club went along with Dustys wishes out of respect through the whole year.In & out of the side knowing where Dustys mind was at.Retire/Play on/Retire/Play on etc ete etc.He told his team mates he was retiring. He obviously told the club that. Do you really think a very sharp operator like Brendan Gale says that Dusty is retiring if Dusty didn’t tell him that?
Bingo this is Ralph carr lining his pocketsRumour is his agent reached out to GC not Martin.
You're focussing on the wrong thing. He nor his manager ever said he was retiring. And have you ever seen any memorabilia that uses the word "retired" in it ? Never. That's not an issue either. Maybe Richmond got way ahead of itself. He didn’t say anything. Never does. Can’t imagine the club would’ve said that if he didn’t tell them that.
Regardless if it wasn’t the case he should’ve clarified it via his manager. Would’ve been the respectful thing to do after a very mutually beneficial 15 year relationship.
Yep. Exactly. There was nothing from the Martin camp using the words 'Retire' that I could see.
Even Raplh Carr posted in Instagram (below) on Martin's last game. Not sure if that has a hidden message in it now -
@dustinlmartin “ the people’s champion “ exemplifies loyalty & excellence in @afl . His dedication to the @richmond_fc & tiger army is unquestionable…
Love you my friend RC
Was it a goodbye speech that was mis interpreted ?He gave a retirement speech to the players. So something happened internally.
Mini not getting the coaching gig ??You're focussing on the wrong thing. He nor his manager ever said he was retiring. And have you ever seen any memorabilia that uses the word "retired" in it ? Never. That's not an issue either. Maybe Richmond got way ahead of itself.
With that, it's not about how he might depart to play with another club, it's WHY he's departing.
Right now we've got players going to other clubs right left and centre. And in the case of Baker, Graham, D Rioli and now maybe Martin, they're looking to go to clubs that are second rate performers that don't project strongly that they'll be premiership contenders over the remaining lifespan of their playing careers.
So why are they all leaving ? To play at second rate performers to boot. That's the real issue.
We've got a lot going on at this club that raises a lot of questions right now.
Dunno. Who knows ? But I sensed issues right from the start of this season. And now we've got fires everywhere. Maybe we actually need those fires ie clean house. Not sure. But there's a bloody lot going on at our club right now. Not a very stable place this year.Mini not getting the coaching gig ??
GC finished only 2 games out of the 8 in a tight competition, and has a better list balance than the a Tiges. You're focussing on the wrong thing. He nor his manager ever said he was retiring. He'll spend 2 years with someone he loves going nowhere. At a soulless place devoid of any character. Yay for him though. He can do whatever he likes. But regardless, it's disappointing he didn't want to play those 2 years with us. If in fact he does play on, which is still unclear.GC finished only 2 games out of the 8 in a tight competition, and has a better list balance than the a Tiges.
They’re not exactly going to be sharing the seat at the back of the bus with the Tiges in the next few seasons, (which will be the last 3 odd years of his career if he plays on).
Plus he gets to reunite with a coach he knows and loves.
agree. and there seems to be a lack of transparency from the RFCYou're focussing on the wrong thing. He nor his manager ever said he was retiring. And have you ever seen any memorabilia that uses the word "retired" in it ? Never. That's not an issue either. Maybe Richmond got way ahead of itself.

We never seen that speech either. Thinking this was all pre planned. Was it a goodbye speech that was mis interpreted ?
I think you can only be restricted the first time you become a free agent. i.e. 2017 for Dusty.I dunno that any of this is real.
But.
Why would Dusty be an unrestricted free agent?
That’s a lot of people misinterpreting. Was it a goodbye speech that was mis interpreted ?
I suspect he will *smile* himself over at some stage. The only bastion of happiness I would get from this is knowing that Hardwick will eventually *smile* over the Gold Coast Suns too. He’s *smile* over his wife, *smile* over the Richmond Football Club, *smile* over his good mate Stewart Dew and history will repeat with Gold Coast somehow.
Maybe. But still haven't heard the R word from the man himself. That’s a lot of people misinterpreting
Hartley is part to blame for this.Probably as long as Hardwick was talking to the AFL and Gold Coast before he jumped ship after selling all the draft capital for Hopper and Taranto. A lot longer than the parties involved would have you believe.
