Draft day

Wylie Buzza for Geelong! What a name!

Steven Wells picks another that no-one knows about from country SA - Matthew Hayball.

Swan Districts | 15/4/93 | Ht: 191 | Wt: 83
“Nathan is a real endurance athlete who our best 2km runner at the club but he also has high speed as well. We flicked him around off a wing and half-back but he settled across half back and he had an outstanding year in which he finished fourth in our best and fairest. The level of development that came out of him this year was staggering to be honest. The major knock on him has been his composure and decision-making but he’s improved that out of sight. Averaged 20 disposals per game and played on the good players but could also play a free flowing game when required. Got a nice balance between attack and defence. Considering where he was at this time last year there has been a huge change.“ – Swan Districts’ coach Greg Harding
If not him, who else? Mitch Brown, Alex Morgan.

A pretty good draft for needs, can't complain about the strategy. We got a small forward with great athleticism, ditto a tall wingman, and Broad is an excellent back-up for Chaplin. Rioli is a bit of a reach but the draft was pretty even after 12 so it's hard to be critical. Fingers crossed these lads kick on.

We passed, so to the Rookie we go in 3 days??
Kerbatieh, Parella (ruck) and Parsons still there, amongst others

to say nothing of the Cameron/Adcock/Ballard "mature" types

FJ saying 3 picks

Posted a couple of says ago that we had enough solid good footballers and it was time for the x factor, some players to light up the G. I have no idea if these players fit the bill but Yarran, Rioli and Markov are not your vanilla solid citizen footballers that are typical FJ picks.

This is deliberate. It is a recognition of what we need and if we have got it right the balance and versatility of our team looks totally different.

This is a strategic draft aimed directly at needs identified
