Deledio's Contract (Merged)

Might be done quicker than people think.

I think about 550K a year would be reasonable, happy to go to 600 to keep him against market. Anything below or above that is pushing it from either party IMO.

Not concerned as I hadn't expected him to sign yet, my gut feel is he wants to stay and I don't see any real barriers to that as the club wants to keep him. I don't think the money is as big a issue to Lids as it is to some players, he'll get well looked after and I think his career form is more important to him, now he can have a chat to the new coach I'd expect a quick signature in the next fortnight.

I agree. For some players, they want to chat to the new coach and see where things are going. I never thought Lids would want to leave Richmond.

That is about what I was floating a while back. I would be happy with 3 years 2 mill front end loaded.

That is money well spent.

yep. He'll be signed. He's worth $500K plus, so if we've offered $500, he's holding out for the plus bit. He's our best player, full stop.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

Sign him up & give him the Captaincy as well.Still a better player than Murphy & Griffen IMO.

Any figure in that vicinity is not worthy for Deledio. He can write 'run hard' on his hand but that doesn't justify the extra dollars. He should be writing 'need to pull the finger out'.

Spot on. I don't recall luke hodge, chris judd, lenny hayes, adam cooney ever having to write on their hand reminding them to "run hard". I would have thought it came naturally with gifted footballers. To me it indicates a mental issue.

No doubt about that. Griffin is a major disappointment, below Tambling now, yet still there's no questioning of the Dogs taking him instead of Franklin.

And yet the one thing the bulldogs clearly lack and are constantly hammered about at press conferences is their lack of a key forward. My god they would have one 2 flags by now with buddy in that side. Why aren't they copping any heat about it?

Not ready for the captaincy yet, but definitely worthy of being our highest paid player.

Matty White should hold that title on the back of his stirling grand final sprints!!!! :clap

Why not DD?

Put the onus on him & see what happens....

Now that would be an anatomical challenge, trying to read what's written on his hand while his finger is in a 'dark place'. I dont think it will work hoozaprettyboy.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

What's it gonna look like if he does a runner the minute a renowned hard-man steps in to the coach's box?
He won't go.

Time for players to put up and shut up . Sick and tired all these years of players being paid big dollars on potential or 1 good year of football. Time for blokes to put their hand up and want the RFC jumper, and not the dollars. If Lids wants a huge pay check to inflate his ego than he can nick off. Would rather get 2 1st round draft picks for Lids and begin another rebuild with blokes that truly want it. Hopefully Deledio does the right thing and shows the same faith the RFC has shown him all these years.

Well said. :clap :clap

Lids has had an easy ride with the club getting $$$,$$$ every year and not consistently putting in.
Its about time he showed that hes playing for the jumper and signed on again.
If he just wants to jump ship because were not going to stand for players that dont go in when its their turn so be it.

Spot on, to be brutally honest if Delidio leaves Richmond so be it. I don't want any player that is not 100% committed to the jumper they have the honour to wear. Its that simple, we should get a good draft pick for him though.

Well said.

Talks are on-going as far as I am aware and I doubt they have halted as being reported in some quarters.

Hardwick will sit and talk to him and hopefully a deal will be done as quick as possible.

$500,000 a year? Bargain when you consider we are struggling to make 92.5% of the salary cap.

Hardwick will implement the rating system that is down at the Hawks.

Deledio will be sitting top of the tree. 3 year deal at $1.8 million front loaded expected.

This worries me with our list management.

Yes hes probably going to be our best player - but i would baulk at paying him over price as of yet.

We pay him to much now - we will be in trouble when hes next up for a contract.

Thats the problem of turning over to many on a list at once - especially the high end/ top liners.

We're in trouble if our highest paid players start being our 23 year olds.

re-negotiation will kill us later on.

Do not overpay for Lids, but do everything else to keep him.

It is written on the other hand. Deledio has two hands. :hihi

Are you still confused? ;D

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

he is not going to leave because of the amount his getting paid, but due to the fact he "knows" he can join a club that willl play finals consitantly.
he needs to wake up and realise that 7 weeks ago he was looking at a spell in the 2's in a very ordinary side. he needs to focuss on becoming a consitant footballer before he starts to hold our club to ramsom.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

I've been a big critic of Deledio and he's unwillingness to gut run off the ball, but even with that weakness, he's one of the best players at the club, and is only 21.

I'd pay him $500k over 3 years with performance bonuses on top. If he wants more than $500k, let him earn it.

Re: Is anyone else concerned?

BTW - where's AstuteTiger?

He's normally straight on the defensive when it comes to Lids. I almost think they're related!
