The boy has huge talent. Match winning talent. Rare speed, talent by the buckets. But not a brain in his head. Needs help. The first club that helps him, starts to turn him around will reap the rewards.

Why wouldn't Richmond, interview Garlett, set up a mentor, set up some goals fitness and training wise get him on the straight and narrow. Right now, I would be investing heavily in the person. You still might not end up with boy via the draft if everything goes well but you've made a huge statement of intent towards the indigenous community. I would actively by going after this lad.

You would have drafted him with pick 9.

I am ok with your sentiment Scoop but.............

The clubs clearly know something we don't.

I think there are much deeper issues here than have been reported in the media. Strangely, i have not heard anything floating around the rumour mill about this kid. Usually you expect to hear all sorts of stuff coming out, 99% being total crap. Not this time though. All seems very strange.

I think it is a case of once burnt twice shy. Richmond is not the only club to have issues with developing troubled players. Yes some do come off, some claim Swan and Buddy have come off. But I am not so sure. You still hear of players making mistakes and getting themselves into trouble. In America College athletes are literally baby sat whilst on campus. With tutors constantly by their side and buggies to take them to each and every class. This leaves more time for training and less time for trouble. They are in a secure environment with security patrolling the area. But this is also what we did with Dusty. This is also how Buddy got his nick name. AFL teams don't have the option to do this unless they buy a university and have there players live on campus and study there. At the end of the day Collingwood may have been Garlett's best option. Because they would have babysat him and put that time into him. However Richmond already have and may still be being burnt.

Scoop did have 2 months to change his mind. Plenty can happen in that time frame, and must have for all clubs to pass on him.

He was still plumping for him, still is. Wanted a guy at pick 9 that no other recruiter touched in both drafts.
Yet he sits back and asks what is Jackson doing? :spin

I think the odds are better that Tonto becomes are brownlow medallist than Gartlett turning his life around for football with any club that grabbed him this year.

We couldn't do it with House Taylor or Glassman Petersen. Failed Burg Relton and even McDonald decided farming was more his caper. Connors conned us for a while until we realised we couldn't fix him either.

Yet some reckon we're remiss not to try our luck at a basket case so big that all 18 clubs let him slip in the ND, PSD and RD despite being a supposed top 10 pick ?

I know who is drinking the Kool Aid.

Why can't he play at coburg for a year?
It would be the best test for him. Away from home, away from external influences

Are you serious? In September he was still being talked about as a top 10 pick. No problems with plumping for him then I would have taken the punt in the rookie draft. Risk reward. Still would prefer him to Sam Lonergan as a rookie. Read below from draft night.

Dayle Garlet. Something’s not right. All the clubs passed. Major issues. Unheard of for someone of his talent to be look overed. The Richmond FC have taken on drunks, ex druggies, fighters, players with mental issues, social issues the works. Whatever is the issue, it’s huge. Historic pass. So I won’t hang the club out for not taking him. You can’t. But ya know what? I would still rookie him.

But continue to make things up. That's fine. Quite clear on what I wanted and my thoughts on Vlastuin but ignore that too. Making things up is fun!

Cmon Baloo, your better then that.

Not when I'm bored I'm not, especially when Jabba03 starts to talk sense in some threads.

Covetting Garlett is just wishful thinking. Obviously there isn't a single club who believes that his discipline problems can be turned around in the forseeable future. He might be able to turn that around in the future, but he'll have to work hard for a sustained period, 2 good seasons and preseasons in the WAFL/ VFL, but I wouldn't be putting any dough on it. Talent like that doesn't get passed up for no reason.

I admit I wanted him early as well, got starry-eyed. Then the mail started to come, pondered the Taylor experience, reality bit.

Bottom line is he's a druggy kid who has pics of himself posted with his eyes hanging out of his head (according to my bomber buddy who follows these things and also knew about the James Hird and bomber Thompson signings well before anyone else did) and they don't report on him probably because it's too shocking and confronting.

Would you want your kids hanging around with a kid like that?
