Three words on why we won't get Garlett:

"Garlo, meet ConDog."

Mate that was our finals campaign without speed ;D

I think for me, our first round picks need to be Vlas / Ellis type characters and I don't think we are yet strong enough to let these types slip through our fingers.

2nd round picks - we tend to struggle with, but given we tend to use these on larger bodies that take more time to develop and still come at a risk - McBean, Griffiths, Rance (end of first rd), Bach, Post, not sure where Elton went, its too early to tell on our track record with these picks but is a sound strategy. Given we still need a CHF, should continue down this path (or best available if a small goal kicking fwd or another mid)

Therefore, third rounder on Garlett, or second rounder if there are no decent sized bodies left of sufficient quality.

Im a fan of Dayle Garlett and have hoped that we take him last year and again this year but heard something yesterday thats dissapointing

We all hear that Dayle didnt turn up to a interview with port adelaide and apparently did the same with Fremantle as well
last week he didnt turn up to a meeting with Richmond also.

Suggest that he has agreed with a club and has been instructed to act accordingly to make his way through to them
Nothing concrete but sounds like a Carlton / Essendon type of move

Yep was mentioned in Emma Quayle's article.
"but it was disappointing to hear that he didn't show for one of his club interviews this week."

May be a strategic move and who knows we may be a part of that strategy!

Well assuming we aren't using our first pick then it seems we aren't getting DG.

Would have to be considered if still available for our 2nd rounder.

Third rounder - snap him up.

Will be third rounder or never, seeing as we have apparently shipped our second rounder off to the Blues for Hampson.

Troy Taylor is probably the name that looms largest in our recruiters minds. He could have been brilliant, but for whatever reason didn't want it enough and burned us badly in the process.

The games I saw Taylor play, I saw nothing special any way. He looked like a taller version of Oakley Nicholls
If the rumours are true, that Garlett didn't turn up to meet clubs, that's his problem..

Emma Q said he's still not a certainty to be picked again this year with many clubs already ruling him out. With that many professionals looking to avoid him I find the calls for a 1st or 2nd round pick for him extrememly surprising.

Exposed talent says first round pick easily, nothing surprising at all. Exposed headcase says run away, run away, faster you fool.
A quality club with an excellent culture n development system should be able to take a punt n improve the young fella. A desperate club might simply grab whatever they can n hang on grimly for the ride of their life.
Who knows what the various clubs are planning in regard to Garlett, perhaps there's a sneaky going around spreading dis information to keep him available for a suitable low risk pick, wouldn't be the first time.

Not really. Emma was critiquing his game as well. No really defence work. lack of pressure acts.

That's the thing Baloo, what he does well, he does so well, his talent is worthy of a pick from 10-30 IMO.

With the ball he is Lewis Jetta mixed with Cyril. Without the ball he is Relton Roberts. But this is only desire, not ability. When he wants too, he is Cyril like with tackling but only once a week.

OK, that makes more sense. It's not just his off field activities keeping him off the lists, it's also the inconsistency of his game.

Conversely, he's raw talent is that good that he's keeping himself on everyone's mind.

I have no doubt that he is good enough and worth the punt. If we got him dong his good stuff twice a week in our forward line, it would be huge. Its very rare that a youngster excels at WAFL or SANFL and it doesn't flow through to AFL level. At worst he is a much better Leory Jetta.

You had me at Relton Roberts
