David Hicks [Split from Saddam thread]

So, u aint a supporter of the fair trial then?

Seeing that you are an avid fan of not having people put words in your mouth, i'd rather you not use your hypocrisy on me... I didnt say this... all i did was imply he will not be the first, nor the last to be treated without a fair trial... Though unlike other was he actually entitled to one?

Everyone is entitled to a fair trial. Otherwise it's a lynching. We demean ourselves as a species otherwise.

Semantics (there you are Cass) galore here.

The time spent incarcerated without trial was totally wrong.

The man is a terrorist with evil intent on his agenda and deserves punishment.

Can we agree to that much?

You say that by defending Hicks and his rights, I am defending terrorism.

You don't believe in presumption of innocence then? The right to a fair trial?

I will never defend terrorism. Its is wrong, it is evil. Don't put words in my mouth.

I believe in the process of law. If Hicks has done the wrong thing then he will be accountable by law. But he is entitled to a fair trial. Like the rest of us.

Once we start throwing away the things we have fought for and believe in, then we will be lesser of a society.

Interesting, firstly congratulations on your ability to extract more than a sentence out of your keyboard, this should be commended...

Secondly, check out the justice thread, its rare to find a fair trial these days. (Not that im saying they use to in the days gone by either) ..

Curtboy, im all for defending the underdog and the like. But unless you are closely related to the man in question, or have heard first hand of his encounters, all treatment of Hicks (who was caught "captured" (see what i did, makes it sound more dramatic) out of this country) is speculative...

Well, well, well, interesting to see you are once again starting to once again in yet another thread you continue to belittle other posters by saying "firstly congratulations on your ability to extract more than a sentence out of your keyboard, this should be commended..". You are a absolute disgrace idiot. Whilst i might not agree with other posters including your majesty (yes you) you continue to use these same tactics to try and close down other arguements from posters on this board. YOU are just a disgraceful person who continues to just try and belittle people with absolutely small minded responses.

You have done the same thing on another board with your absolute ridiculous comments. Wake up to yourself and whilst you might not agree, dont belittle the people posting. Your posting so far has been a absolute disgrace

Endevour - don't let this get under your skin - if they attack the person and not rebuke the argument - it means you know their side of the argument is without foundation.

There are more important things in this life to apply your wisdom too than people who are derogatory towards fellow posters.

Enjoy PRE........

Why don't you get into Liverpool, TE?

It seems a bit odd that you only get into Johnno about his xenophobe ways.

Please stop the personal bickering and insults and get back on the topic or the thread will be locked and/or posts deleted.

Rosy,

The "brothers in arms' ;) on this thread cannot control themselves, and why a thread like this ends up in just personal abuse at people.

A shame, as David Hicks is a person who is in the media every day, and everyone has different thoughts on the topic.....so its a topic that is "popular" at the moment.

Maybe I should volunteer to become the "mod" for this thread that you were asking about....I would clean it up in no time! 8)

P.S: Its also a shame that other posters who do not agree with me, yet are quite good at debating their point of view, will miss out posting because of the childish behaviour of a minority....if you lock the thread.

That is al I will post on this matter.

Regardless of whether or not we believe David Hicks was a terrorist or not, he was held in custody for 5 years before any action was taken to prove he was guilty.

The US government took it upon themselves to immediately assume David's guilt without any supporting evidence and consequently treated him as if he'd be charged, convicted and proven guilty. The fact they've been able to get away with this is an absolute disgrace, and I am ashamed to be an Australian if our government supports this type of action.

Taking away a person's freedom without a proven and valid reason is the ultimate crime in anyone's language.

'Without any supporting evidence'? This muslim scum bucket was was caught red-handed with the Taliban filth he so loved. Moreover he was proud of his radical and murderous Islamic convictions and allegiances. To quote Gerald Henderson in the SMH:

"In letters to his father, Hicks boasted that he was officially a Taliban member, quoted a poem supporting decapitations for those who disagree with the prophet Muhammad, declared he enjoyed firing at targets from the Pakistani side of the Kashmir line-of-control while training with the Islamist terrorist group
Lashkar-e-Taiba and called for an end to what he termed the "Western-Jewish domination" of the world."

He also wrote home that he had met his hero Osama Bin Laden 20 times whilst training with Al-queda

Since then he has admitted 'under oath' all this and more.

(by the way isn't it funny that almost every accusation that Muhammad Dawood aka Abu Muslim al Australia aka David Hicks has made against the US during his stay at Guantanamo Bay has been swallowed hook line and sinker by his Australian supporters and admirers, yet when it comes to his freely given admissions and boasts prior to his incarceration, or sworn testimony since, they all seem to be conveniently ignored or dismissed).

Interestly, during his what will be an all too brief stay in an Adelaide prison he will apparently have to spend most his time in solitary confinement. It seems that our prison population has a more developed sense of righteous loathing of this repulsive and evil little man than his bleeding heart apologists on the left. It seems that his life wouldn't be worth a two cents if he was exposed to the general prison population. Personally I hope that they give him a very warm welcome.

I didn't know writing a letter was a crime.

Unless David committed a crime against the United States, he SHOULD NOT have been incarcerated by them, let alone without a transparent and fair trial.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with his philosophies, aggressiveness or his lack of understanding of people of other religion, but writing what he wrote IS NOT A CRIME. And nor should expressing a point of view EVER be.

One thing that makes me cringe, is if one disagrees with and/or speaks out against the United States government, they're labeled a terrorist, a trouble maker, etc. etc. The very freedoms (freedom of speech and opinion) the terrorists were aiming to crush have been destroyed.

You could say they've won.

The last few posts have been deleted because they were of a personal nature rather than about Hicks. Might be an idea to take it to PM's as TE requested. ;)

As we were.......... :hearton
