what drugs are people on in here?

best game for the club. owned waite in the first half, looked every inch a commandeing full back.

carlton's free midfield ball didn't help dave's cause in the second half, but he broke even.

only blemish was his kicking which was strangely up and under. normally a great kick.

a huge plus tonight!

Yep and the pleasing thing for me was he went stride for stride with Waite on the lead. Was shoulder to shoulder on most leads.

Waite is a average footballer but a good athlete. For Astbury to keep up was very impressive. And is starting to hit the pack at pace and crush it. Huge bonus.

When we switched Grimey onto Waite the Blueballer was far too strong. Astbury showed huge improvement on his formerly weak one-on-one game.

Dave was terrific. Saved us numerous times down back. Seemed composed and positioned himself well for contests. Did not mind Rance being out at all. Dave had to step up and he did. Turning into a reliable and clean (to use zipps term) footballer. A free run now with injury and he will only get better.

His ability to read the play has really impressed me.
Will only get better as his confidence grows.
Super important for our back half structure!!!

Yeah, he did pretty well keeping up with Waite. I think the problem may be his reaction times rather than his actual leg speed per se.

Anyway, good step forward for him. I'm not sure Rance is necessarily an instant call up now which is a good thing. Nice to have competitions for spots.

Huge improver for me so far this season.

Would love him to get first crack at Cloke in a fortnights time.

Well I don't know what Astbury you guys were watching, I was sitting behind the goals so I got a good look at him, I saw him do more bad than good down back, he was beaten in nearly every contest, granted he had a few good touches, we definitely missed Rance.

What game where you watching?!?!?!?!?!!?
I was watching the game were David got out marked at nearly every 1 on 1 he had, were he was lost in between kicks and was lead to almost every contest.
A few loose ball gets and couple of good spoils is not a great game. The reason he did so well is because carlton couldn't kick straight or he would have had 4 or 5 kicked on him.
Don't hate Dave, happy for him, just not in the best back 6. I would have batch, rance, grimes ahead of him.

His 1st half was excellent but Waite got the better of him in the 2nd half and just luckily for us Waite's kicking for goal was hopeless. A much improved player with loads of potential and should cement full back as his own. Interesting comment by Malthouse in his media conference that games like this are what some of his players needed and the training track can't provide it (whilst he was referring to Carlton players the same can be said for many ours). This was a big game in the context of Astbury's season.

I must admit I have only watched the replay through to mid second quarter and I lost count of the number of spoils he made.

At the game, I was very impressed with his game and watching the replay even more so.

So which game did you watch because it wasn't the one I saw.

Astbury was very good. I had him in our best three players. He stood up the whole game and played the percentage play. I just hope this is his new standard. If so we will have great key position depth.

On current form I would be considering dropping chaplain for Dave in order for dance to return.

Dave wears the number twelve jamo, reckon you were watching n cursing the number twenty five. Assa played a blinder for us, easily our best defender.

You're surely kidding? He was great. 2nd half Carlton were waltzing down the ground with no pressure at all. Astbury did very well to limit Waite's opportunities under those circumstances. Astbury first player picked for the backline next week.

Agree with you there Dave moves well reads the ball better now and has more pace than Chaplin
Saves game was a big plus as I've been a knocker off him and he stood up and proved me wrong
More games for young kids please dimmer bc our older players lack leg speed when the game gets hot
