David Astbury, Thank You

Not good news, I reckon he might have pipped griff for that final defensive spot in round 1. Need grimes back fast and can't afford any hiccups in chaplins return from his knee op. injuries suck

Hmmm... Hotspot? But not a stress fracture. Unlucky for Astbury. But he seems to me to have a future. Hope to see him on the park soon.

Hurley is the most overrated forward in the competition, I'm amazed they keep persisting with him at full forward.

Agree. He still may end up being a very good playerer, but on output to date he is way overrated in the media. Considering how good they looked as juniors, bith he and Hansen have been completely underwhelming.

As far as Astbury goes, I must admit I barely even noticed him. Surprised he is getting praise.

griff is ahead of him at this stage. With the recruiting of Chaplin I'm not really sure where Astbury fits in the grand scheme of things.

Wouldn't sign off on that just yet. Griff's pre season has been insipid and weak. Did you see his effort to spoil against Crameri on the weekend?

Astbury reads the play much better than Griff and is more solid in the contest. Griff has a better boot (but not necessarily hands).

I would like to see Griff playing a role at high half forward, adding an extra dimension to the forward line which is currently way too stagnant.

Interested to know on what basis you make this judgement. I think both Astbury and Griffith have a lot of work to do to show they are AFL material. Astbury ast least showed some great form and consistency in his first season. Injury-ridden ever since and certainly he can't rest on his 1st season otherwise he'll be quickly out the door.

I'm going to have to differ and say I rate Hurley, not competition-wide but definitely one of the best (and a barometer for the) Bombers.

Hurley would be one of the best young defenders if they actually played him down back. The Bombers are ruining him trying to turn him into a forward.

Agree, he's a gun backman, could be one of the best. Just doesn't look comfortable up forward

perhaps we should trade him for one of our young KPFs who we trying to turn in a defender.
win/win.

feel for the boy, an irritating setback.

still think fate will intervene this season and we'll get to see Astbury emerge as a bona fide forward.

that's the problem with our list ATM.

vickery knows he has the role of jack's buddy locked in, safe as houses. so the 'rone is playing like he's crusin down the coast road with no one in the rearview.

hope dave recovers quickly.

am concerned that his body isn't rubbery enough for AFL. seems every injury lesses his physical ability. hope that's an illusion and all he needs is a clear run at it.

That is a shame for Astbury. He was getting better with each match he played in the pre-season. He will be a handy player to have in defence if he can stay fit. Hopefully this injury doesn't set him back too much.

I thought he looked great on Saturday. Is he a possibility to come in this week, maybe for Grimes, or is he still a way off being ready?

Shad i didnt see him play did he move ok and what other aspects of his play caught your eye ?

As many have said on here he looks like a very organised footballer. Positions himself well, strong mark, great disposal and seems to have time (doesn't panic). It's really hard to judge how much of a setback his injury was though. I think if he can stay on the park he will get his chance pretty soon.

Ben holland mark 2. Not very mobile. Anything that hits the ground we will be in all sorts of trouble.
I can't believe it, he looked so promising in his first year

Nothing like Holland Zip's!

could see him in the ones soon, and I'd be rapt for the boy.

looks pretty comfortable with his body ATM.
