David Astbury, Thank You

Will be very valuable playing at either CHB or CHF, if he can get his game right.

Agree with that, just needs a sustained run of games to show his worth in which he has.

If one of he, griffiths or Elton can become A Grade it would be massive , IMHO his going to be very handy an Elton will be special

Agree Mr Chips. Elton is the watch.

The club said this wont happen. He will swing between CHB and CHF as required.

Yep. Think he will start for the first three games or so as the CHB while Chaplin gets fit enough to play.
Will then be a decision made as to where the three talls (Astbury, Chaplin, Griffith) play
or if one of them gets dropped
or moved to forward line instead of McGuane.
May also be a choice made about Grimes as well joining that mix but I personally think he will be fighting with Batchelor for that taller HBF spot.

If Elton can improve his kicking, he will be a star. Astbury will be MrDependable. Smart player, reads the ball well, lacks a bit in athleticism (but that didn't show up too much the other night which is promising) and very composed under pressure so has more time anyway.

love the way elton goes about it, but am quietly worried about his kicking. seen some awful shanks at coburg. no mint sauce. just maggot-ridden.

dave was good again but as is the case these days got exposed when team defensive structures broke down. plenty of touches and as always used them well

Looking promising down back.
Who do we give him next against Hawthorn?

Astbury is treading water ATM

Which is better than when the boat was about to sink.

Hope he makes it but, it is unlikely at this stage, coming from a long way back and has lost his athletisism

hugh - I would happly tread water if it meant being named as one the teams better players. I actually think he is starting to get his touch back and is building nicely. My tip is he plays rd1 while the club gives Chappie and Grimes more time to build match fitness.

Gave Hurley a bath. Looked ok in the air, still looks timid with the ball and isn't taking the game on but it will come.

Yesterday was a step forward.

I'd be surprised to see him round 1. Griffiths should get the nod with Rance and Chaplin. I thought he was quite slow to move the ball on yesterday. He held up several plays when he had a free or a mark and ended up just kicking down the line. As his confidence comes back I think he will move faster but I don't think he trusted his disposal enough to fire the pass when it was on. He instead waited and just kicked long. Not a mistake, just a confidence thing.

The real problem is our forward talls. If things don't click down there soon, I would hope that Dimma will look to Astbury or preferably Griffiths, when Grimes comes back, to move to CHF.

Hurley is the most overrated forward in the competition, I'm amazed they keep persisting with him at full forward.
