David Astbury, Thank You

I think Dave needs to develop his running capacity so that he can be a lead up CHF.
We really need that role.
He is a goal kicker and nice kick to position too.
His agility and strength need inprovement.

It's good to hear that Dimma doesn't have him locked into any role yet.

Good article.

Yes I think they don't need to be in a hurry to see where he's best suited. It's a classic wait and see situation.

Perhaps but I really worry about his lack of athleticism.

Hes always been slow. Who knows they might turn him into a Leigh Brown or something. Not everybody needs to be a Buddy F or Tony Modra type.

He may still make it but I'm pretty convinced that if he does, it's going to be as a forward rather than as a defender.

Leysy agrees with you Tooheys.

Massive questions marks on his athletic ability. Hasn't been able to physically compete since his knee.

Looks a longshot ATM.

I thought it'd be the other way around. A bland, dour third tall defender. Will Thursfirld type if you will.

Agree with tigertim - think he will the depth player / backup defender for grimes if his body doesn't hold up. There will be some teams he doesn't match up well with (like the Carltons etc) as he can't match their fleet of small fast forwards.

I think he is a natural forward, and learning to be a defender.

3rd tall forward, kicking about 30-40 goals is where I see him ending up

Agree, is forward material for mine. Has already shown what he can do, just needs to find that initial confidence again. Has a great mark on him.

I would pick him as a forward also if he averaged 1 to 1.5 goals per game but somehow I feel he will follow the Griffiths development path and spend time in the backline first, would be interested to hear what the coaches have said to him.

We spend far too much time trying to turn players into something they're not.

Could not agree more. It seems we recruit based on needs and then try to turn them into something else. So tired of seeing this. Can think of many examples where it seems to have worked either.
