David Astbury, Thank You

Good news....we need a number 12 running around the field.....he can play! Hopefully now that his body is maturing he may have a better run with injuries

With the people we now have at Tigerland you just have to have faith in their judgements. That goes for all players they keep or get rid of.

Should and will stay forward.

Riewoldt, Vickery and Astbury as the talls.

Leave Griffiths in the backline. He's looked much better there than anywhere else.

yep - looks like Astbury and Elton could be fighting for that 3rd tall possie.

Could see Griff on the wing / fill in backman.

Postie for depth (noticed they didn't include him the rfc press release as one of the talls???? but I think he still has a role)

Well done Astbury, lets hoping for a breakout year and 30 goals for the year would be a good return

Going a bit early aren't we? 2 years?
He was running around the last couple of games like he was Ben holland
Should've just waited to see what he did next year before giving him an extension.

Had to give him at least 1 year, 2 years is fine for a youngster with the potential Astbury has. Now he can concentrate on his form. Reckon he'll be a big improver next year if he stays fit.

Griff must be given first crack at CHF. He's looked better in the backlIne as he had more experience when he played thee as opposed to not much exp when he played fwd earlier in his career. Reckon if he now goes fwd having seen the game as a Backman, it will help him heaps in his fwd play.
Where that leaves astbury for a posi I'm not sure. Prob next in line for CHF or fwd pocket if vickery no good.....

I like Griff as a backman. Can roost it over zones with ease and has a very fast footy brain. Gives great releasing handballs, and it's nice to have somebody that's tall enough to play on the resting ruckman in the backline, which usually kills us.

Dave really needs to establish a position for himself next season. Has a good footy brain and some skills but I do worry a bit about his pace.
Need him to come on.
Reckon he may well be a mr fix it his whole career ToO

More I watch him the more he looks like a clone of Chris Dawes.
He really looked like a really good player the 1st year he played.

Agree. Lucky to get a 2 year old extension, was showing very little even before his injury.

I'd like Griff more with another two full seasons under his belt. Has some serious composure and skills out on the field, just needs to get match hardened and he could, I said could ( before people jump all over me ) be a rolls royce player.

I actually think it was the right call as 2 years gives him time to get back to his best and try to get some games under his belt. He is still very young and has time on his side.

Hopefully Astbury will have significantly more mobility than he had late in 2012.

He will need it, desperately.

I think that was a result of a complete lack of match fitness more than anything. You could tell by his fumbles that he just didn't have his 'touch'. Which is completely understandable given his lack of pre-season and the increased pace of senior footy compared to VFL level.

Judging on what both Grif and Astbury have done so far; they would have to rated about equal chances for being able to make it long-term.

Grif has played 18 games. He has so far averaged 7.1 disposals; 2.1 marks and 0.2 goals per match (yes; i know that he has played a number of his games down back).
Astbury has played 24 games. He has so far averaged 9.6 disposals; 2.7 marks and 0.3 goals per match (yes; i know that he too has played a number of his games down back).

Both playesr have had careers seriously interupted by injury; and both would no doubt do better if they get an injury free run.

I hope that at least one of Grif or Astbury play up to their potential - preferably both of them. So far Astbury has done the better; though he underperformed badly in his two games back from injury.

On what they have done so far; neither of these players "deserve' first crack at either CHF or CHB. They are both behind other players atm. I do hope they both have big pre-seasons and "earn" a long run of games as KP players.
