David Astbury, Thank You

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Our backline played as individuals today. So synergy

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

One of the worst performances ever by our backline in recent years. Dave and Grimesy had shockers. Rance and Broad not much better. Thought Houli and Short were better.

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Can't blame him, Rance was running down the wings like jeronimo leaving him minding darling and Kennedy.

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Darling took 15 marks on him.

Still has a tendency to crap himself under pressure. His one on one work was the worst I’ve ever seen. Constantly out of position and strength in the air non-existent. Didn’t help that *smile* refused to change the match-up

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Is a lot better when the game is played on our terms, found out yesterday when he was isolated from Rance and Co.

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Doesnt jump when in a marking contest, just looks for body contact. Got found out in 1 on 1's when rance and the other backmen couldn't help out.

To be fair they all had their hands full with a very good forward line.
The ball was coming i50 fast & clean & our usual ability to intercept mark was taken away from us completely.
Midfield was unaccountable yesterday.

BTW I love Astbury's nickname in this thread title. ;D

All good points which is why it’s staggering that they continued to play 5m off their man all day

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

First time in a while that Dave has put in a poor performance like that. Plenty of credits in the bank

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Sometimes we obsess too much about what the defender did wrong IMO. Good play is good play. Darling is the best player in the league right now. He was awesome.

X2

Darling 2018 is Dusty 2017.

entirely unstoppable.

Im surprised Grimes didnt get a crack. The outcome probably would have been the same?

If the forward pressure was there, they wouldnt have been delivering it in like they did, and Grimes or Vlastuin may have gotten in his space,

but probably not. Darling is in the Kouta, Richo, Gablett, Dusty unstoppable zone.

best we could hope for on Darling not winning the Coleman, and I dont hope for it cause I love watching unstoppable players, is injury.

Re: David "Dave" Astbury

Dave had the misfortune of getting the Red Hot Darling, but laso had the double misfortune of getting him with no forward or midfield pressure put on his supply to slow it down.

The other part of the equation is that the Coasters also have Kennedy who is as dangerous as all get up on his own, so his opponents cant sag off to help Darlings opponent.

Very dangerous one two punch they have up front the Eagles.

not often its misfortunate when you get a red hot darling, but yeah, I agree entirely
