David Astbury, Thank You

Solid again yesterday, hands have been very good of late, probally in career best form, just wish he could go with first option more often

He could take a leaf out of Hampster's book. Lately he's been doing what he should do, knowing his limitations, a handball to a running player in the clear OR a long roost. Dave is more mobile and capable of more, but that would be a good start. Yeah we was solid yesterday.

Said that yesterday at the footy re Hammer, not so nervous now when he has the pill, he just keeps it real simple as most Dinosaurs should.

just needs to be injury free and keep getting game time (which he should have got last year but dimma wanted that superstar chaplin playing) to keep growing his confidence.

remember nearly everyone was bagging rance even just 2-3 years ago saying his kicking and decision making was shocking. look at him now.
astbury can keep developing and with the guidance of rance can become a good player for us down back.

imagine we get hurley. astbury and hurley as key backs and rance as the third tall, chipping in helping out, spoiling/marking, and then rebounding. best tall back setup in the comp we will have!!

If we can get another quality key back to help Rance, I reckon he'd be more valuable up forward as another marking target. Has shown this season he can take a good grab. He and Hurley would be perfect in the side as swingmen at either end of the ground

Knowing your limitations & working within them is one thing but what I see is a fairly limited player who has next to no offensive game.
When he's got the ball we lose all momentum because he is so slow to move it on by playing the percentages.
It gives the opposition plenty of time to cover off our players and set up their zones.
Teams must love it when he's got the ball in his hands. Time stands still.

Spot on. I check the remote to see its not in slow play

This is true but he can take a grab and is a decent stopper. He'd get a game in most other teams IMO but he might be worth swinging forward next year if Vickery is munching match payments elsewhere.

I'd definitely try him forward. BTW the game has moved on from decent stoppers in defence in 2016. Astbury's ball movement is like he's from the 1960s.

:hihi

was pretty good yesterday, but whenever him, moore or ellis got the ball, I GOL'd

I reckon he has been very good. But agree, dare I say it but needs to do what Hammer does - handball it off or take the first option.

Spot on, there were numerous times when he could have kicked quickly to his first option and moved play on quickly, but he hesitates and then looks the other way, when he looks back, all players are manned up and he's held it for 10-15 seconds and killed all momentum. His defensive work is pretty good and will get better but he really needs to speed up his decision making when disposing of the ball.

Chb that take > 10 marks a game don't grow on trees ::)
Yep, a new coach would make him less worried about moving the ball forward, but they wont teach Elton to take 10 marks.

Play him forward

A log moves quicker. Is he fat? He was so mobile when first started. He was our best player in his first game against hawthorn in the fosters cup game.
