David Astbury, Thank You

how does suggesting astbury has leadership qualities reflect on mcguane or thursfield at all?

also, can you name one poster who is 'pinning their hopes' on the 2 of them? i, and a few others, reckon mcguane in particular, is way underrated by many but wont be upset when we have 2 or 3 KPDs who do a better job than he does. at the moment we have 0. imo.

anyway, this is an astbury thread, im sure there are threads for the other 2 somewhere. hopefully he can continue on from his impressive debut season.

Don't worry, I've seen some creative posters use the cricket forum as an opportunity to criticize Luke and Jake. Unlike some recent disappointments at the club, King and McGuane give every indication of giving 100% and getting everything out of themselves; something that should be respected by those of us who have about 10% of their dedication.

I'm with Brodders here. Astbury being an exceptional kid who shows natural leadership is hardly an obvious sign that Luke and Will are not part of the future.

Indeed. It simply means Astbury has leadership potential, Muscles and Thursty don't. Can't all be chiefs.

have spoken to dave a few times and he is leadership material.

as u say, speaks volumes for mac and thursty et al yet alot of people still pin their hopes on the maccas and thursties to come good even though they have sh!t disposal and not a skeric of football nous.

I actually don't think Thursfields disposal is that bad just doesn't get much of it.

I wonder how that will affect his agility. Second year blues while he adjusts to his new size????

I reckon it effected Post last year but then Jack's new found bulk was an asset.
Will sure be interesting to see how Astbury(he still needs a nick) goes in yr 2 after a very promising start.

I made the comment and others have agreed. To me having a second year player in the leadership group shows either a)Astbury is a terrific leader, b)there is no one else capable of the role, or c)a combination of both.

Just to be 100% clear in the Coaches view it actually said that they were looking for him to take a leadership role on the backline . That is different to being in the leadership group of the football club .

I agree that it doesn't reflect that well on those who have been there much longer but to me it says as much about his ability as anything else . They want him to be a leader because they know he will be there a long time . It's great that we have someone like Leppa as backline coach who is one of the best key backs of the last 15 years . Great spoiler but also an attacking player when he had to be . Astbury should soak up all he can learn from Leppitsch . The key defence posts of Leppitsch and Michael had a lot to do with Brisbane's success .

Can't see both Thursfield and McGuane together getting alot of game time at the same time. Think Moore has much more than these two in terms of football ability and nous and he will be the general for the younger guys in Astbury, Gourdis and Grimes and Rance who I am sure will be given plenty of opportunities in 2011.

Some compelling logic there.

Because Roids are usually steroids in sport I think Piles might be a better nick. And Piles is olskool. But either way is good.

Hmmmm.... maybe since he's put on over a stone in the off season Roids might be a neat pun.

And I like it that pretty much all of us fans are optimistic about Piles.

Are you thinking Rick Astley?

Not quite Tails. Rob Astbury the former ch 10 and 9 sports reporter ( and close friend of the late Graham Kennedy!) or Ian Astbury the lead singer of the Cult.
