David Astbury, Thank You

Gee wiz.

Has there been a worse back 6 than he, Batchelor, Chaplin, Houli, Morris and Castagna?

Shows how good Rance is. Has made our backline look good for the last 3 years

A) No there hasn't been.

B) you underrate the importance of Grimes and an in form Vlastuin to that backline. Add those two with Rance while taking out Morris/Astbury/Chaplin and suddenly it looks a whole lot different.

I thought something was different but they were to scared as a back 6 to take the game on - killed us in the end

First game. Not his fault but he was a part of it.

another dud. how is hardwick supposed to coach with so many duds on the list?

if only damien einstein had some half decent players.

What about the rest of the back 6?

Before he got injured in 2014 some thought he was leading the JD and was possibly all Australian .....he was beating most of his key forward opponents. So he does have the ability....I think his marking and one on one work is pretty good....just undoes some of his good work with really poor disposal. If he could tighten up this part of his game he might get back to something like his 2014 form. I want to get rid of under-performers as much as anyone else, but we clearly can't do that as quickly as we'd like, so we need to get the best out of what we've got for now.

Can we stop wheeling out this chestnut???

Someone with time on their hands will show that the few games he got accolades for were against mediocre opposition - and even then the ball 'bounced his way' a couple of times!

Is anyone seriously going to say this guy has ever been anything more than below average??

Slow, dim witted (football nous), limited skills DUD!

Sadly - there are 10 that are worse!!!!

Doofus. At his best.
Gets the ball, got time, handballs 2metres away to a kid surrounded by port players.
This year if they can't trade him, delist him.

Too slow; lost whatever agility he had through injuries; gets his hands to lots of marking contests but drops them because he isn't a one grab mark and too easily beaten one on one.

Just not good enough and will never take us anywhere.

We'll probably get away with it against the Dons but I'll be interested to see our ball use in the back half with Astbury back.
Don't think we have missed his lack of pace and ability to get to repeat/contests one iota in recent times.
Wonder how bad Chaplin's hip actually is?

I am not a big fan but given chaplain is done, I feel we have to keep playing him.

Has played the odd promising game but always lacked continuity.

Astbury can take a contested mark. Has chaplin covered already. Not to mention spoiling. Astbury was in the side when hardwicks game plan was in full swing and everyone was mega confused and in need of a lobotomy. Let's see how he goes when we are more up and running .

If Vickery starts off badly bench him and throw Astbury up forward. Was recruited as a forward and had some success there early on in his career before his long run of injuries. Should at least provide more contests than Vickery has of late.
