David Astbury, Thank You

Big responsibility for David this week. Will be interesting to see how he goes as the no 1 KD.
I'll say he goes sideways to Rance but Rance won't be there.

The bloke is a doofus. Takes a great mark only to screw it up with poor decision making.

Oh! I see that so often I thought it was part of the 'fantastic' game-plan.

Definitely part of the template for players at RFC.

Houli is another one. Really think he must be colour-blind or short-sighted but undiagnosed, so no corrective vision via contact-lenses or whatever. Some of his kicking choices defy belief, like to 3 on 1s if not straight to the opposition.

My opinion as well

Chaplin & Astbury as the key backs..
We're only missing Rance for 2 weeks. Imagine if he copped a serious injury?
A tall defender needs to be on the shopping list.

It kills me seeing Jake Lever run around for Adelaide.
Absolute gun.
What were we (not) thinking?

he looks really slow to me, its probably deceptive. He is playing well.

It's going to be a big challenge for Astbury on Saturday night. With Rance out, he's basically the #1 backman.
Would be good if he could really rise to the challenge and step-up and show some leadership down back.
Astibury's football future is coming into very sharp focus.

Dave Astbury is classic Richmond.
Nice guy.
Tries his heart out.
Poor kick / turnover merchant.
Blue collar battler.
Ultimately, not up to it.
But somehow will still manage to eke out a 10 year career.
Only at Punt Road.

Still yet to play 50 games. Perhaps sideways kicks and turnovers have something to do with the lack of run from the half backs and structures breaking down. Astbury can take a good contested mark and is good one on one. The rest can come with experience. If he stays on the park he will improve quickly.

That's classic denial Richmond-style.
No, his turnovers have to do with being an average kick.
It's a house specialty.

Before he got injured in 2014 some thought he was leading the JD and was possibly all Australian .....he was beating most of his key forward opponents. So he does have the ability....I think his marking and one on one work is pretty good....just undoes some of his good work with really poor disposal. If he could tighten up this part of his game he might get back to something like his 2014 form. I want to get rid of under-performers as much as anyone else, but we clearly can't do that as quickly as we'd like, so we need to get the best out of what we've got for now.

We tried to trade him didn't we? Next thing we know he is getting games. Oh that's right you gotta cover Chaplin and Morris into the forward line.

Plays like Humphrey B Bear. Actually forget that, I reckon Humphrey would have more presence.

One day, he will take the first option, surely.
