David Astbury, Thank You

Drives me mental, every single time he gets the ball, sees an option in front of him, an attacking option, goes to handball, then pulls the handball, the either gets caught because the ump has called play on, OR, handballs or kicks backwards, often to a player under pressure. If he has to be in the side, and I can see why at the moment, just say 'Dave, you are not Jack or Shed, first option best option', maybe put it on a tape on his walkmand looping over and over and he can listen to it during the day and as he's going to bed.

Has anyone got our win/loss record with Astbury in the side?

46-15-29-2 (35%). Without: 74-46-28-0 (62%).

Unfair to pin it all on Dave, though. He's honest and is what he is. Slow of mind and body.

Telling that we couldn't get a deal done with Brisbane, who are crying out for talls.

slow mind, slow body. Not an AFL player, and never has been.

So should enjoy a long career at Richmond.

If he 'needs' to be played, he just has to be up forward. Too much of a liability down back.

Stop the Chaplain up Forward Farce and replace it with the Astbury up Forward Farce.

Those numbers are confirming what I am seeing.
Dave might have been ok in 1975 but our sluggish movement in the back half has a lot to do with his inclusion this season.

Riewoldt won't play , Port by lots this week !!
Tiger falling apart , l want to see Hardwick come out and say ,its kids time play them ALL take the hit but by the years end they will know who has the game and who goes .

Don't think he had even been born before 1975.

Reminds me of when Bob Davis was asked how his 50s Geelong sides would go against the '89 losing side. He replied 'I reckon we'd go OK, but you have to remember that we are getting on a bit now'.

Didn't Don Bradman say something similar about facing the west Indies quicks in the 1980s?

Yep. Conceded his average wouldn't be as high, "But you have to remember, I am 80 years old."

He also put Patrick Patterson in his place after the final Test of the 88/89 series, when Jones (216) and Hughes (72*) combined for a massive partnership. Patterson snarled, "Bradmon, mon. We would kill you!"

"Pffft," said The Don. "You can't even get Merv Hughes out."

Chaplin & Astbury as the key backs..
We're only missing Rance for 2 weeks. Imagine if he copped a serious injury?
A tall defender needs to be on the shopping list.

We would be nuts not sounding out Hurley however Essendon confident he will sign with them soon.
