David Astbury, Thank You

Dave got beat early. Sometimes smashed. But he fought back. I thought he even played with authority for a while.

At least ten of his mates are under the pump. He would be a certainty to survive for a year or two but he's a crock. And now he's injured.

He's Rance's go to man. But now he's gone.
Broken ankle.... it better be to justify the moaning and wincing he was doing on the sidelines.
A prop and stop defender who will be Chaplin mark ii. Just what we need for the next 5 years.

Astbury should have been groomed as a forward ,another Hardwick stuff up

Too slow for forward. Deep in defence is his position and has played it quite well when fit. Unfortunately just keeps getting injured. He and Grimes hve been cursed.

Ankles hurt like buggery, even when not serious.

i reckon some of the anguish was about another stint on the sidelines, and the chance his career could be close to over.

The likes of Astbury are not the answer in developing a successful team
He's been cruelled by injury, but sure he has sufficient ability to be ever considered a quality player, of which the Tigers desperately need many.

Pretty sure I saw him walk out onto the ground at the end of the match, hopefully and indicator of nothing too serious.

So someone who still makes the same poor decisions with the same poor disposal as he did in his first game which was played back in 2010 is a "quality player"?

I'm sorry, but taking a few unopposed marks in the handful of decent quarters he has played in his entire career does not qualify you for a spot on a senior AFL list, let alone a place in a senior team.

This guy holds his own in contests very well and might have been a handy full back 30 years ago playing on muddy suburban grounds, but has no place in the modern game.
Worsens our crab style game and his iffy kicking.

I think he has been alright. Not great; not terrible, has been brave and defended well at times. He needs more consecutive games before you write him off.

Given it takes years to develop a KPD, just tell me this.

(Since Grimes will also still be out I expect).
Assuming Rance will have to battle Hogan, without Astbury, who takes Watts? Yes Jack Watts? Elton? Vlaustin? Bachelor - probably the best option is to recall him - but Watts will out-run/mark/reach and think him.

We have no-one better than Dave ATM.
