David Astbury, Thank You

He was good. His decision making at times Richmond of 2009
Loved his marking across half back

He's a one grab mark and that rare commodity at Richmond, a tall who can hold his ground and has enough strength and balance to mark under physical pressure.

Would be great to see what Astbury has got to offer should he manage a prolonged period on the park. He's got some real ability yet it hasn't been borne out mainly as a result of injury, so here's to some form consistency for him this season.

Very bright posts. Not sure they are completely accurate.

We almost got carved up in the backline by an absolute cellar dweller with, lets be honest, a rubbish forward line. What changed? Chaplain for Astbury and Batchelor for Ellis.

With Astbury in the side we lose that marshalling ability from Chaplain. Agree with Astbury having as many games as his body can cope with since Chaplain is on his last legs. But we lose out because of it as well. Rance or somebody had better pick up the intellectual pieces or that No.3 defence from last season will be forever a memory.

We got obliterated through the midfield. They had that much open cheap n easy ball coming overlap from half back and through their open running mids that if they'd had a halfway decent forward line we'd have been pantsed by ten goals. Back line was admirable in the work n effort they put in while under siege all game.

Too true. You can see it in stats too as well as the open mind.

Last year we conceded an average of 47 I50's, Thursday it was 57. Last year we conceded 21.6 scoring shots from those 47 I50's (46.0%). We conceded 23 scoring shots on Thursday (40.4%). Sure Carlton probably stuffed a few up but essentially shows that the defence was pretty good, it was those 57 I50's that nearly lost us the game.

I thought Astbury looked good, his contested marking was a real highlight. He has that strength to use his body to nudge forwards under the ball which he did a number of times on Thursday night.

Very good game last week against Bluebaggers . Raspberry now has the chance to prove that his indifferent form is behind him & is worth a regular place in Tigers back half.

You're right, but what we lose in Chaplin's positives we also lose in his negatives. Chaplin (and Houli as well), have provided some of the biggest howlers at the worst times in recent memory. They both have the feel of flat track bullies to me. Chaplin for various reason's, and Houli probably because watching him over the years I still feel like 'he hears footsteps', although he took a mark last week that had me questioning that.

His head space is good now too. He was ahead of himself pre injury apparently (not that I'm pleased it took that), has settled and is working hard again.

WTF! Which injury was that? *smile*'s barely been on the park long enough to get ahead of anything, never mind himself.

Yeah he played a decent game. As did Houli and McIntosh. Our other defenders very poor. We missed Grimes big time. As Fasolo would not have kicked all those goals on him.

Good game. I wonder who comes in for Grimes. Batch or Chaplin. Either would have helped tonight once Grimes went off. Was Grimes on fasolo until he got hurt?
