David Astbury, Thank You

Sting ray last year thumb this year. Bad luck continues. I know it's not a serious issue but I just can't see him coming back from this.

Rance, Chaplin, Broad, Houli, Grimes, Hunt/Yarran looks a much better backline than: Rance, Astbury, Batchelor, Houli, Grimes, Hunt

Lamb22's astute observations on Assburgers from the game thread.

Dave just needs a good run at it.

He is a good 3k runner so the limited rotations wont affect him as much.

His speed is fine when matched on gorillas. Seems to lack the first 5 metres or the judgement or concentration to go with someone nippy on the lead.

He is a lovely contested mark and a good intercept mark (much much better than Griff)

Seems to mull over his choices with a ball a tad long but his disposal is otherwise neat.

He is very important structurally because if he can collar the second key tall forward it means Grimes can play swingman on talls and smalls and you can play an extra runner or two eg You might have Houli, Castagna and Yarran as outlets and Flossy sweeping in a back 7.

So he is a very important player potentially. If he plays to the level of 2014 we improve drastically.

Assburgers looked good last night. One of the urban myths Lambchops busts is that Dave is slow. Even in his current post knee condition DA was able to get over the lawn last night. (See the race on the wing in the first quarter.) His straight line speed is perfectly adequate.

Dave looked much fitter than I expected last night.

Played well. Vital cog. If he stays fit he will show how good he can be. Can play on the big forwards and beat them. If only we had a fit ass berry in last years ef loss to match against waite.

I'll go one further from lamb - a fit ass berry can take the number one forward which will also release rance to drive us forward more.

Miles ahead of you-know-who. Not quite as poised at this stage, but far, far tougher.

Yeah, he's crucial. If he can stay on the park he might solve our key back woes. Good signs last night. Still a bit ponderous with the ball, hopefully that will improve with continuity and confidence.

Played most of the night on 19yo Dougal Howard. Think David is still way way behind where we need him to be.

He did but he rotated onto others, Columbo. I thought he did well in the cleanups. And up the ground.

If he displays 2014 form, he is a clear upgrade. I just hope he can stay on the park.

Yep. Improved as the game went on I thought. Massive, l mean massive plus if he stays fit and can do the job he did in 2014.

Agree, we so need him to take another key forward and ease the pressure on Rance. Could enable Chaplin to slot in and do his slough off and intercept attacks role.
People may need some tolerance for Dave; will take some time to return to good form after missing so many games at the highest level. Expect some errors but if he can make it back to 2014 form, great!

But a lot less games, can't find the pill and not quite as hard at the contest..!

My point is we need to persevere with him to see if you're wrong ... because we have no-one better anyway.

Just watching on tv but he seems to have been OK so far. Obvious free missed when he was spoiled going for the mark, otherwise hasn't given away much.

Yeah fine game from Dave. Thought he supported Rance well. At minimum he provided a far greater aerial presence than Chaplin. Deserve a block of games and a good ounce of luck on the injury front.
