David Astbury, Thank You

When Witts walked past the television his girlfriend missed a whole season of Game of Thrones on BoxSets. She still thinks Jon Snow is a virgin.

:rofl

TOT racking up posts like the Bowden brothers in the backline

I'm amazed how many times David Astbury is continually mentioned as the trade bait on here.

Looking at a quick breakdown of our 2015 team : [Apologies for any missed players/delisted players or formatting issues]

RUCKS MIDS SML FWDS TALL FWDS SML BCKS TALL BCKS
Soldo Gordon Lennon Riewoldt Vlaustin Chaplin
Maric Mcintosh Short McBean Grimes Elton
Hampson Menadue Lloyd Vickery Batchelor Rance
Grigg McDonough Griffiths Houli Astbury
Hunt Butler Mckenzie Morris
B.Ellis Castagna
Arnott Dea
Drummond
Lambert
Conca
C.Ellis
Martin
Lids
Cotch
Miles
Edwards
Thomas

If there is one area on our list we are lacking it is Tall Backs!!!

If you also take into consideration an ageing Chappy it really only leaves 3 tall backs, then we have to start robbing Peter to pay Paul!

Just because David couldn't crack the team this year I believe he is still a fine back man and a super important part of our structural development.

Absolutely. We are incredibly reliant on Rance not getting injured.

There's no one on that list capable of replacing rance. Astbury is slower then the QE2

How much slower? QE 2 tops out at about 32knots, around 60km/h. Usain bolt is also slower than the QE2 he tops out at about 44km/h.
Maybe you need a new benchmark...

A 102 year old tortoise, try that one

yeah thats pretty slow it would take him half an hour to run goal to goal. better save him for a really wet day, tortoises are much quicker in water. Age would generally be irrelevant for a tortoises speed average.
I think Dave has some useful traits, happy to keep or trade for another player more required.
No need for hyperbole.

Last week Dimma stated he was a required player so what has changed unless there is a good trade in the air we are not aware of.
Dimma doesn't do the trades and until they're up for trade everyone is a required player. Pretty sure Schwab would have said the same about Trent Croad until Fremantle asked the question years ago. Making the opposition think we want him also drives his value up.

Well, it's not like Dimma is going to say he wasn't a required player, come and get him.
Slightly different scenario given his history but look at Harley Bennell. If GCS didn't publicly say he was up for trade, what would his true value be worth? I'd suggest more than it is now. Different as Dave is a cleanskin, but the reasoning is the same. Once a player is pushed out the door, his value usually drops.
But Leppa knows Dave's personality, character, playing ability and injury woes. How much the former compensate for the latter remains to be seen.

Remember that the media sells a lot of papers, or web page visits, through this next two weeks.
"Lions are believed to be interested in David astbury" doesn't need much basis to make news.

the way I see it clubs almost invariably say that about players who may want to leave but are contracted. I suspect that we will be ok with Dave staying unless we get a good deal for him and that is going to be either a good draft pick or as part of a deal to get some other player.

If Redden goes to WC for pick #17, then could we package up Astbury and picks #31 & #49 for Brisbane's current 2nd round pick #21 and 3rd round #39? (Also posted under REDDEN thread)
