Next to Martin has been the year's highlight for mine. Great pickup so late.

Might be his fitness Shawry. First year player, only the one pre season. Next year will be very exciting.shawry said:Am happy with how he is progressing and going especially a first year player, however must say in my opinion every time I have seen him he is a little bit lazy. Might jsut be me and could be wrong however have got that impression. HAving said that he is going extremely well for a fi=rst year kpp and think he has a lot to fofer the club.

Reckon Post's sense of belonging is holding him back - not helped by Wallace's inept use of him last year. Astbury has only had hardwick so far and seems to have had much clearer messages as to what's required. Post definitely has the attributes to be a quality footballer.

They see him as a monster KPF. Bash and crash type.

He seems to have lost the sticky fingers he had in his first few games.

Having said that, we need to remember that Astbury (and Post) are very young players who have been thrust into senior footy far too early. As a consequence, they will have their struggles over the next couple of seasons.
Unfortunately, a lack of decent recruiting between 1998-2003 has left big holes in our list that youngsters have to fill. As an example, Jack Riewoldt, recruited in 2006, has already played 63 senior games. Chris Dawes, Ben Reid, Lachlan Hansen, Scott Gumbleton and Matthew Louenberger, all recruited in the same year, have barely played that number of games between them. They have been able to find the pace of the game slowly at a lower level.
Surprise, surprise, they are all having breakout years in their FOURTH year on an AFL list.
We tend to forget very few players are capable of making a Chris Judd/Joel Selwood/Lance Franklin type impact in year 1 and then continue to improve over the next couple of seasons. Most have a few good games, fall away for a couple of years as they get their bodies and minds attuned to the requirements of AFL footy and come good around the age of 21-22, when they are more mature individuals.
