Damien Hardwick

Some interesting and pointed remarks from Dimma in his Presser.

'He's taking responsibility' for some lack of prep of the players to handle these tight games. then says 'I mean all of us coaches' need to do better/learn.

Couldnt agree more. Said it before, some of our development is below standard.
The thing is is hasn't just been one game. It's been a pattern all season.
We've been falling off a cliff consistently late in games.
The 3/4 address & planning has not been working this year.
At a certain point the players have heard it all before. At a certain point the coach loses a little bit of their edge.
Dimma has been a brilliant triple Premiership coach but they all have an expiry date. I do wonder if he's getting close to it.

Now watch him go win a 4th flag for us.

we have won 8 out of 16 last 1/4s, so we arent falling in a heap every week, just a massive heap some weeks.

i reckon he was talking about the last 5 mins rather than the whole last quarter, saying the players didnt know how they should be playing to hold the lead late.

Hardwick is a Great coach better then Clarkson, Clarkson was given a core of players that many would dream to have and most importantly a stable club.
What did Hardwick inherit? A club laughed at, a club that was compared to Fitzroy and a team list that would struggle to beat a VFL side.
I would never ever sack Hardwick.
I would sack 44 players before going after him.
He is a inspirational coach, that uses all avenues to improve players.
He has turned Rookie players into hall of famers.
Anything he would say to group would be motivational and inspiring.
I love the Dim

I really liked the way he spoke in his presser, and what happened last week only highlights that good players don’t always make good leaders.

Despite the team having less experienced heads in it due to injury and suspension, which I felt contributed to their inability to steady the ship when under pressure, I wondered why some of the senior players that were there and had been in tight finishes before weren’t more vocal about grinding out a win.

Our lack of on field leadership killed us as much as the schoolboy errors in execution.

Our true leader missing - T. Cotchin.

And thats no disrespect to Grimes and Nank.

Between Grimes & Nakas, Baker & Graham show more leadership.
Who's the Einstein that thought it was a good idea to take the captaincy off a 3 time premiership Captain??
The Media pressure drove the club to move out Cotchin..

The issue is not so much Cotch giving it away, I don't like the idea of co-captains selected at the same. Makes it look like the club is hedging its bets.

He is not the same person / coach that he was from 2017 to 2020.

COVID amongst other things has changed his demeanor.

He has gone from a calm and in control coach to one that stands up in the box, paces around and lets his emotions show. The pressure of underperforming last year and aging stars has gotten to him. His lack of composure and calm decisions in tight games is costing us no doubt.

That's on the players for me he can't coach the mistakes Grimes and Short made last week or so many misses on goal or brain fades.

The anxiety spreads through the playing squad pretty quickly. No difference to any workplace.

Show me a coach who isn’t feeling the pressure right now!!!

We are still in with a chance so I’m backing Dimma, Cotch, Dusty and co to fight tooth and nail to go all the way. They have done it before, more than any other leaders with a team still in contention.

We're definitely still a chance! Would have beaten the "top" team if not for The Thug. We've been a chance in every game this year...even in our premiership years we were blown away in a game or 2.

Cotch, Dusty, Lynch, Balta, Vlas, Gibcus, Soldo have had a rest and if they can have 3-4 games leading into the finals, they'll be primed. There's a chance we'll have a full, fit squad for the finals (question mark on Kane).

If we were in this position prior to 2017, we'd be jumping out of our skin in excitement. This year it seems to be meh.

Dees and Lions are struggling, Cats have peaked too soon (and it's only h&a ;)), ditto Pies, can't see Syd or Freo in the last week. We're in this!
