Re: Cricket

AS I read it this morning (the AGE) they have no punishment guidelines yet just those of the ICC, so I guess A & A will be banned from International matches but the Pakistanis have yet to set penalties for domestic games.

Re: Cricket

Aussies get beaten by West Indies in upset by 10 runs.Whilst there is no major need to panic I am at a loss to why Martyn gets a game & Shane Watson as an opener I don't agree with either.Jaques should be brought into the side immediately.

Re: Cricket

Jaques is on 162 not out, just to rub it in to the selectors. How this guy isn't Gilchrist's partner is a joke. Consistantly gets runs in the Pura Cup, and domestic limited over competition, made 90 odd on debut for Australia as well.

Watson is a number 4 for Queensland, and should be there for Australia, gives us more bowling depth. Martyn should not be there.

And Hogg only bowling 3 overs on a spinners paradise, c'mon Ricky get it together.

Martyn must have a photo of the selectors in a compromising position. :-X
How this guy continues to get a game at the top level is beyond me. :spin

Re: Cricket

Jaqcues and Chris Rogers or Travis Birt should be looked at for the one day side as well as the test side. As much as Langer and Haydos are my favourite Aussie bats the time has come for them to maybe shift on at end of this season or the side will lose too much too soon.

One day side.

1 Gilchrist

2 Jaques

3 Ponting

4 Hussey

5 Symonds

6 Clarke

7 Watson

8 White/ Hogg/ Cullen

9 Lee

10 Clark / Johnston

11 McGrath

Theres a side that i can think of at a pinch good batting, and fielding, not too bad variety in attack with McGrath, Clark, Lee, Symonds, Clarke, Watson and one of the spinners to bowl.

Bowling stocks still looking thin tho overall for Aussies.

Re: Cricket

With Cullen probably being our future spinner after Warney and Macgill, isn't it time to throw him into one day cricket as our number one spinner. It did wonders for Hussey, and Clarke. It would be great for him to have a bit of international experience before Warney and Macgill finish up, and he takes over as the number one spinner. Another advantage with Cullen, is that he is a pretty good fielder as well, so he wont be lost in one day cricket in those regards either.

Yep,It was always going to be a backwards step bringing him back.

Re: Cricket

Dumb. Martyn and Katich cut far too much slack, get rid of them. Hodge was dropped with a test av of 70.

On the upside Tait bowled some pretty fiery spells on the weekend I heard. The scum couldn't get settled while he was on at all.

Hodge is an average player at best, right move with axing imo.

If you take the double 100 out of that series, he would have been lucky to have an average of 20.

Re: Cricket

Am i the only one worried about McGrath's form, and ability to bowl at the level anymore? IMO it could be time to make a hard call.

No doubt he'll come out and take plenty of wickets in the Ashes and make me look like a goose now.

McGrath needs to be given some time.At this stage I think he will be okay but you would expect him to be ready by the ashes.

The fact is he made 200 & was given very few opportunities. He might not be up to test standard but was never given a fair go like many players have.

Is ABC Radio broadcasting the Champions Trophy?

No , unfortunately. Have to make do with score updates on their website if you don't have Foxtel.

Not panic stations by any means but tiring of hearing of Watson's 'potential. Needs to show something v good opposition.

Ponting's comments on the W Indies brought a wry smile to my dial given he was as guilty as anyone re poor shot selection, though Hogg's swipe takes some beating.Mystified how a guy that struggles to get a game for his state in this form of cricket can jag a national team spot....

Surely Jacques form with the bat more than offsets any fielding deficiencies

Re: Cricket

Well he's shown a bit with the ball today. I don't think opening the batting with him does him any favours.

Re: Cricket

Martyn appears to be answering a few doubters...playing a very swash-buckling innings, from what I'm reading.

Or is it the equivalent of, say, an AFL player only playing well when their side is winning? ;)

Re: Cricket

He played a class innings. He's a bit of an enigma Martyn isn't he - capable of great things but perhaps in recent years it's been few and far between.

Nice to get a convincing win up against the Poms and good to see Watson and Johnson do well. McGrath looks rusty but I wouldn't worry about him yet.

Re: Cricket

Pleased to see Watson do well, particularly with the ball. Showed some mongrel , which I find encouraging in any sport. Ok with the bat, though got himself out with a very poor shot. Agree, opening the batting not his 'go' (reckon #6 after Hussey & try Clarke as opener,if not Jacques) but perhaps the thinking is to give him opportunity & responsibility to see if he can develop as hoped , rather than stay around the fringes as a 'bit' player.

Johnson ok too but not as fast as I thought. Martyn's innings a class above the other 21 on show.Could argue it needed to be after grassing that dolly from Bell.

Admittedly both teams far from the 'finished article' re Ashes but , all the same, good to land a convincing 1st punch. Think both teams will find our local conditions & pitches conducive to their game & strengths...
