Punting is an absolute whingbag! I wish Captain Sookypants would just STFU.
He sets a terrible example to his team mates, soon enough we'll be known as the whinging Aussies if we aren't already.
I'd far prefer someone else to have the captaincy.
Agree, amazing in such an unimportant game he still couldn't keep his composure.Cricket Aust need to look at an alternative skipper in near future.

Hussey looks to be the only other choice, but Punter will be hard to move, and by the time he goes, Huss maybe old!

very annoying MB.  He's the capt of Aus, show some discipline forchrisake.  I'm really sick of being hassled by pommy mates about our sook capt.  I agree with 'em.

First thing I learnt in any sport I played, tennis, footy, cricket, the ump is always right, don't winge and get on with it. Apparetnly the leader of the best cricket side in the world didn't learn the same lesson. Over a wide FFS.

To carry on in such a minor game is amazing. The poms will know it is very easy to get Ponting rattled & I'm sure they will make life difficult for him.

Yeah it's been a pattern of behavior for a while now. It's just plain embarrassing.

Re: Cricket

It is TOO, the Capt is meant to be an model of good sportmanship, gentlemanliness and all that, not an embarrasing sook. Who is advising the Punter?

Cricket Aust will now.

Re: Cricket

Apparently ex Zimb opener VCermeulen went beserk at a Pom club game and tried to attack a sledger in the crowd with a metal star-picket, banned for 10 years. What a nut.

Test Squad to tour Australia, 2006/07

A Flintoff (Lancs, capt.)

AJ Strauss (Middlesex)
ME Trescothick (Somerset)
AN Cook (Essex)
IR Bell (Warwicks)
KP Pietersen (Hants)
PD Collingwood (Durham)

CMW Read (Notts)
GO Jones (Kent)

AF Giles (Warwicks)
MS Panesar (Northants)

SJ Harmison (Durham)
MJ Hoggard (Yorks)
SI Mahmood (Lancs)
JM Anderson (Lancs)
LE Plunkett (Durham)

Good squad if middle order fire we're in trouble

I don't think it's a good squad. I'm feeling confident.

Flintoff shouldn't be captain - he wont be match fit come the series and will be expected to boal and bat them to victories as well as captain. It's a big ask when Strauss has slowly come into his own the longer he's been in the job.

Giles hasn't played this County season - he wasn't even that good at his peak! The Times said he was doubtful before the 3rd test anyway - what's the point?

Harmison, Flintoff, Giles, Plunkett, Trescothick and Anderson have all got significant fitness concerns. Sure they have a while to get fit yet but the schedule is a tough one - the tests are played in quick succession.

If the middle order don't fire, they're in trouble! They may be a batsman short. Sure they have the academy players in Perth but I'm not sure it's a substitute. In addition Trescothick has had a terrible summer and as I recall hasn't had great success in Australia.

Re: Cricket

No Michael Vaughn is good for Australia.

And there's a few others probably still little mentally fragile, despite the win last year.

Pace attack a bit 'samey', and no Jones is also good news.

Re: Cricket

Your right, but I'm going to the gabba test and I'd like to see us take on their best. It will probably bring us back to even though because we insist on playing hacks that are past it or not quite good enough against good bowlers.

Whilst I'd agree with you normally TGN, Australia's got a few chinks in it's own armour. Is this side as good as when we lost the Ashes? I'm not convinced.

Still Simon Jones missing will make the Aussie bats breathe a little easier. He's the big difference from the last Ashes despite Vince Vaughn's absence.

Should make for a good series.

True, but we are fresher, playing little over winter, at home, and I'm not sure they have weapons to exploit our weaknesses.

Re: Cricket

Shane Watson carving up the Indians , 77no from 67 balls.

Australia 3-150 in 26th over. Watson opened the batting with Jaques. Damian Martyn failed.

Re: Cricket

I see the Aussies sent Johnson home. ::) I guess they saw enough in those 4 wickets the other night.

And his replacement is doing well today vs the W.I.

Clark, Stuart: Overs - 7 Maidens - 0 Runs - 87 Wickets - 0 R/100 - 167.31 :-[

Re: Cricket

Golly, is that right FBF. I just couldn't understand Hilditch's reasoning for sending him (and some others) home.

At least Hussey had the good sense to finally take Clark off. Unlike Ponting who hung Mick Lewis out to dry in South Africa earlier this year, effectively ending his international career.
