4 November: MCG, Melbourne (D/N)
8 November: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide (D/N)
10 November: Perth Stadium, Perth (D/N)

Dettol Men’s T20I Series v Pakistan
14 November: The Gabba, Brisbane (N)
16 November: SCG, Sydney (N)
18 November: Bellerive Oval, Hobart (N)

NRMA Insurance Men’s Test Series v India
22-26 November: Perth Stadium, Perth
6-10 December: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide (D/N)
14-18 December: The Gabba, Brisbane
26-30 December: MCG, Melbourne
3-7 January: SCG, Sydney

MCG always hard to get a big score in short games...pitch bounce variable and big boundaries.
Close results..yes...but not the spectacle most are after.
Any score over 200 is competitive.
Its not a great ground for anything other than tests.

Maybe, but wasn't it a better contest for it? Even in a 50-over game, they don't have to both make 320+ for it to be interesting.

I watched a bit of it. Pant maybe should have been given the benefit of the doubt, not sure he hit it, but he was out LBW when he was about 30 and the kiwis decided not to review! Ball tracking showed it would have hit middle stump.
The Pant dismissal was a real litmus test for DRS and just backs up the notion that no matter what cricket does with technology, it just doesn't seem to be able to take a trick. These three points tell me he was almost certainly out: 1 - multiple spikes including one at the precise moment the ball passed the bat, 2 - visual deflection off the bat, 3 - Pant's instinctive reaction to look around as soon as the ball flew in the air (Tom Lynch says hello).
But it could be argued that none of them are enough to conclusively overturn the on-field not out decision.
And the fact that it happened to the last recognized batsman at such a crucial stage of the match is even more telling.
But then again, he got a life when NZ did not review an LBW that was out, so it just goes to show that even in the modern world of technology, the decisions even each other out in the end.

I think the Indians are the only nation that will not use hot spot in conjunction with the other methods, it may have assisted.

But as you suggest, it definitely looked like the ball deflected and the other factors lean to him hitting it. It was a good decision.

It was a dead rubber so was not series deciding, perhaps the Indians should consider all available assistance in future. The more assistance the more decisions you get right the better for the game IMO.

Starc and Smith look in superb nick.
Smith has scores of 3, 0 in the 4 Innings game against VIC (caught behind and LBW) and 56 in the One-dayer for NSW and 44 in the hit and giggle against Pakistan. Bowlers are not always trying to get you out in 50 over games, form in them can be deceiving IMO.

Hopefully he and Kohli can put on a vintage summer series, odds are against it.

Am I only one that didn't even know there was a match yesterday until today?
I saw something in my news feed. Had no idea and my interest in ODIs is almost zero now.

Cricket will kill itself behind a paywall in Australia. Indian eyeballs probably worth a lot though.

McSweeney didn't make many but looks to have the game to open. Compact, solid technique, leaves the ball well. Plays straight and hooks/pulls strongly. Been around a few years, had a great season last year and is in career-best form. He's our man.

Yeh, Bancroft has seemingly blown his last chance, and Harris has had plenty of opportunities. If he makes a score today, he may get the nod.

Vaughan said the same thing the other day, get McSweeney in, he has the talent. Just get him in the side.

Bancroft another failure with just 3. Can we just *smile* him off now.

Straya A 5/88!

Good to see some life in the MCG pitch these days. Fast and bouncy, with a bit of grass. Exposing flat track bullies. Could probably be a shade less green but better than the roads they used to serve up, or the corrugated shockers of yore.

Yep, deserves a chance on last seasons form and the continuation of that form this season.

I'd like a dasher to come in at some stage to play the role that Warner played. I suppose it doesn't have to be now, that can happen when Khawaja retires.

JFM cracked 3 lovely 4's then went out. He seems to do this sort of thing every time I watch him.
