Cricket

Took my lad last night for his first game of cricket. He was excited, but I can't get into a game where the result doesn't mean much. I throw "friendlies" and practice matches into the same category.

Test cricket truly is the ultimate.

All Test cricket games are friendlies.

Been a great test in India, the Indians should win but the Poms are the only side in world cricket that would believe they could win this.

Bumrah & Anderson have bowled brilliantly. Indians were lucky, Gill should have been out on about 5.

Stokes took a maginificent catch, been plenty of action and highlights.

Its a 5 test series which is just great, great timezone for watching. My wife is going to get sick of asking is that still on!

HTF can Crawley be out and Gill not out using the same review process.

Gill looked more out than Crawley to the naked eye.

Ultimately both should have been out.

And Bairstow unlucky with the umpires call. Jeez the Indians have got the benefit of the umps.

Ashwin is such an unlikeable piece of *smile* too.

Another 5-for for Ferg O'Neill. He's now taken 17/179 in his last two first-class matches, albeit both against the second-class South Australian batting line-up. 55 wickets in 15 first-class games at an average of 20. (Also averaging 27 with the bat.)

I think England read the pitch wrong with this one in picking only 1 paceman. There's certainly been enough there for the good pacemen to get a bit out of the pitch. Both Anderson and especially Bumrah have been excellent in this test.

Batting 1st was certainly beneficial and essentially the difference between the 2 sides was down to Day 1, a brilliant batting performance from Jaiswal was always going to be tough to beat, but overall I'm stoked as a pom. I didn't think we'd get this close to them in India especially with such an inexperienced spin attack. I hope they retain these 3 and don't go back to Leach. Leach has done ok, but he doesn't take enough wickets to bowl as he does, where he always bowls 1 stray delivery that gives easy runs to the batsmen. I'd rather stick with the young trio, and they can continue to learn, way more benefit long term than going back to Leach. Now if Leach always kept it tight then it would be a different story but facts are that he doesn't, always throws 1 cheapie down, long hops, full tosses, balls down the leg side, it just makes it so easy and doesn't allow the pressure to build up.

It definitely was not the pitch they usually throw up.

Change a couple of reviews and it could have been a different story. Gill gets 100 after luck on 2 reviews.

Great series so far, terrific to see what the next 3 hold.

Well that’s embarrassing. Windies all out 87, Straya got them in 7 overs, game done by 5.30! Maybe they should play a T20 game this evening. I’m pretty sure they did something like that in the 70s when a game was done very quickly.

So much for getting home and having a few beers watching the cricket
