Cricket

fARC that ground.
It’s a dump. I know they’re tarting it up soon but it’s a dump. Went up there for our finals game in 2019 and thought it was badly out of date.

Besides the pitch, the general surface quality goes from really good to really bad too often at the GABBA as well. The outfield during the test, whilst maybe getting a pass mark (unlike the pitch), still wasn’t all that flash either in spots.

Cricket is in some trouble.

Sold the soul of the game for 20/20 hit and giggle and the Indian Money, and the mental giants everywhere followed suit, and have pretty much put Cricket across the globe into a tail spin that is threatening to transform into a nosedive.

How much longer do we need to put up with Warner?

His mouth is scoring more runs than his bat since coming back in to the Test team.

Yeah I was thinking he should worry about his place in the team before getting the captaincy.

Boxing Day test is his 100th so I doubt he'll get dropped for that...then his hometown test. If he fails next test and we lose, will be very interesting if he plays in Sydney.

Not a Warner fan but his leadership was around captaining the Thunder and possibly a VC role in ODI or T20.

That is fair enough you'd think.

The curator should get sacked.

The pitch went a bit over the top but still much prefer this to an SCG or until recently MCG that are boring roads that give nothing for the pace bowler.

They make for far more boring cricket.

Travis Head didn't seem to mind it.

Reckon it is more a reflection on South Africa having a weak batting lineup but a world class attack.

Going against everybody else but I love a test every so often where the ball dominates the bat.
The Saffies batting is very ordinary with their best bat averaging 34 and all the top five over 30.
Australian bowlers are as good as anyone and South Africa quicks bought genuine heat.
Loved Rabada ball to get rid of Warner in 1st innings and Khawaja, Smith, Marnus all copped good nuts. Smith & Head counter attacked batting beautifully.

Pitch probably should have allowed 250 in first innings but need to give credit to bowlers for exposing bats who are used to batting on flat tracks. Would not blame groundsmen to much.

Much prefer this than 20/20 (which I never watch)
Hope Melbourne is similar

Yeah people aren't happy whether its a flat track or a green top. I didn't mind it, yet another unpredictable way a test can go.. I think it has a bit to do with very good bowling attacks v average batting line-ups too.

Agree. Cricket has been in trouble for a long time and continues to lose relevance to a lot of people. I used to love cricket as a kid. Loved test cricket and one day cricket right up until the early 2000’s before the whole sport got bastardised with too many forms, too many games, too many players.

Plus, in a globalised world where kids are tuned into the best basketballers, best footballers etc in the ENTIRE world, what does Australia playing minnow countries like WI, NZ, Sri Lanka etc really mean ? Not much to me. It’s a very very marginalised sport nowadays in a proper global sense. Not sure of it’s relevance. Losing popularity overseas big time as well, not just Australia.

Appreciate the Indians love all forms and games of it, and others in Australia still do as well, but I’m part of a very large quota of people who have tuned out. Only cricket I have an interest in now is test cricket between Australia/SA/England/India.
