Cricket

We had the depth. not sure there are guys below demanding places.

We used to roll the dice though. Slater, Warner, Phil Hughes, Waugh S, Langer, Healy, Lee B, Warne, McGrath, McDermott and on and on you could go with blokes who had played bugger all first class cricket before getting a taste in the Test side.

Warner posted drinking a $1200 bottle of Grange after beating the Windies. A team that a decent District team would have covered.

Cricket is in serious trouble I reckon.

Players in this team are a bunch of self-entitled prima donnas that are completely out of touch with reality and common people. S Waugh, Border, Boon, Langer etc would hate all their BS.

Warner is too busy whining about not being able to hold a leadership position instead of focusing on getting some runs. His form in Test Cricket is woeful.

Personally, I blame Michael Clarke and the IPL for completely rooting the game in Oz. Clarke decided being a celebrity was as important as being a cricketer and knobs like Warner and co have followed in behind. Whilst the IPL has made them so rich, they don't give a *smile* about anyone but themselves now.

I reckon we lost that 10 years ago.
There has been opportunities to replace Warner, especially with Khawaja doing well.
Tours against Pakistan or Windies or Sri Lanka appear to be an ideal time to blood a replacement.

The long game is needed at selection

What a disgrace! $1200 bottle would be gnat's *smile*. Surely, as a man of the people, he could have found a nice vintage Cold Duck left over from the 75/76 tour or a luverly Porphyry Pearl.

I'm outraged and will write a note to my local member and the daily hate section of the Hun. The storming of the ACB (err Cricket Australia) offices will take place at 3.45.

Ladies, bring a plate.

Goes back to what I was saying before, how the overall cricket pyramid, right down to the bottom rungs was a self fulfilling production line of talent in the late 80s, early 90s.

If a test player had off form, there were 3-4 blokes performing strongly in shield cricket waiting to take his place. If a Shield cricketer found himself in poor form, there were 8 blokes from district cricket waiting to pounce. If a first grade district cricketer wasn’t performing, there were multiple guys from second grade or talented school boy cricketers gunning for his spot and so on……

There always seems to be a prodigy on the way through. It was the Waugh boys and then Punter; M.Clarke as well. Brett Lee probably qualifies also. Pucovski was the one I thought was going to be it, but alas...

Any others at the moment?

Yes.

Teague Wyllie from WA. Youngest first class centurian since Ponting.

The Big Bash started yesterday. Not all that interested but it is cricket from my home country so I normally watch it. Every year, CA moves the goal posts and for continental Europe, the BBL is always on a different steaming service. I had bought ICC.tv's "Australian Summer Pass" and had assumed it would include the BBL but it doesn't. As the first game started yesterday, I hunted around for which service was doing it. The usual suspects ... YuppTV, Live-now, ICC.tv, nothing. I couldn't even find it on a pirated stream. There was a page on the CA website which listed all of the services that were doing it and there was nothing for Europe. Ouch!
Tapped off an email to CA and 24 hours later, still no reply.
But I went back and checked the page on CA's site that yesterday showed nothing for Europe and now it says it can be seen on bigbashlive.cricket.com.au for 50 USD. A bit steep given the apparently non-competitive market, but it is every game, so I paid.
I had decided that CA's indifference to marketing Test Cricket was all down to the fact that they didn't much care. Those of us who appreciate Test Cricket will follow it no matter what the likes of CA do. But I am surprised that their marketing of the BBL appears to be just as non-existent.
So if there are any other Australians out there on the continent, knock yourself out. Or perhaps not.
As I write this I have still not heard back from CA.

Holy *smile*! Just flicked through a few channels and saw the big bash was on. Had to do a double take. The Thunder were eight down and I watched the last 2 wickets go down. All out for 15!!!
Agar was the pick of the bowlers up to when I flicked it on. He had 4 for 6 off 2 overs. Then that last over Thornton came on and ended up with 5 for 3 off just 17 balls

All out for 15! That is absolutely unbelievable. You couldn’t even try to lose a game that badly.
It’s an incredible occurrence that 10 players have a bad night on the same night. 15, It’s gotta be some sort of record.

I'm pretty excited about the test series against SA. Should be a cracker if they can manage to prepare some decent wickets.
