Cricket

What a picturesque ground Blundstone Arena is with Mt Wellington in the background.
For mine it's the equal of Newlands with it's Table Mountain in the the background.

What joy to watch Boland is, the story of the summer. I love his modesty, he hasn't got an ounce of smugness in him.

We sure are. In a way I'm glad we are getting flogged here, anything else and it papers over some massive cracks. At least this way it will force the ECB to react.
Billings might be a winner. Spirited performance - keeping and batting. Lot of questions re Buttler after this tour.

Buttler is one of a few that should be in the "never again in tests" bucket after this series. He's 31 now and not great behind the stumps and despite all his promise, averages more in white ball cricket which most cricketers are the other way around. Burns, Leach and Woakes should also be in that bucket too.

England need to have a massive review here and only look to players that will move us forward over the next 4 years. Another 4 years of treading water like we've done over the last 4 years and we are done in Test cricket.

Boland bowling beautifully again, without luck, 2 simple catches put down in the slips.

Think you're spot on.

One glance can tell you that the Aussie slip placings are a mess. Two catches down off Boland now; Warner's just a bad miss but they're too close and getting in each others' way. Couple of times I believe Carey left catches as he was trying not to cross into 1st slip's path which is nonsense. Keeper has to go for everything reasonably within his reach. Or he's been unsure what to go for.

Who's responsible for the cramped positioning? Carey? Langer?

Or the sports scientists crew on laptops reinventing the wheel?

Too many allrounders for mine mrp. You might be able to get away with it in England, but you can't on Australian wickets. Your top 5 batsmen need to be specialist batsmen.

Fair assessment and where we have the issue at the moment. We just don't have the quality with our top and middle order batsmen at the moment, but IMO we need to pick players like Crawley that have the technique but may just not be scoring the higher scores at this point and coach them through it. Theres a few playing pretty well in country cricket that are similar ages around 25-26 and under that deserve a chance.

Even some players we've already seen like Hameed, may be better down the order, who can play shots once you've got through the new ball.

We should see a number of players given some opportunities over the next couple of years, players such as Tom Haines, Josh Bohannon, Harry Brook and Kiran Karlson. Dan Lawrence will get another crack at the middle order.

It's a cruel game is cricket, Starc hasn't bowled anywhere near as well as Boland, but has 3-50 off 10 overs.

Scottie Boland is like a bowling machine. But cruelled by dropped catches and too many balls the Poms couldn't lay a bat on. Best economy rate; even ahead of Cummins.
